WOULD YOU EVEN CARE IF HE WAS GUILTY?
The stock market is up, unemployment is down and the economy seems to be picking up some steam. The streets are mostly safe, the nation is mostly secure and the world is mostly at peace.
So does it matter to you whether or not the president is a crook? The answer for a lot of Americans may be no.
With the revelation that a grand jury is looking at evidence against members of President Trumps 2016 campaign team, we move closer still to the possibility that someone could be in very big trouble.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his squad are moving fast, and the likelihood that some charges will be brought can no longer be ignored. It is not hard to imagine a moment in the very near future where some associate of the president is in the dock, charged with misdeeds relating to Russian interference in the 2016 election.
But, again, we ask: Would it matter to you?

(60,034 posts)they fly all sorts of flags, profess all sorts of beliefs.
But it comes down to just a few:
White. Straight. and I've got mine, so screw you.
Period.
So - his base support would not at all be bothered about anything that comes out - they are all lost, for good.

(10,721 posts)Gee, I can't imagine why Republicans control a practically unprecedented percentage of state legislative bodies and governorships, while controlling every branch of the federal government in spite of being batshit crazy. Majorities which make gerrymandering and voter suppression even easier.
That can't possibly have anything to do with kowtowing Third Way tactics we've seen on display over the last several decades. Heavens no.

(170 posts)aside from his premise that cynicism is total in America, he totally undercuts his whole argument at the end:
And thats why Trump and his fellow Republicans feel extra pressure to pass some kind of economic stimulus soon. Tax cuts may be a matter of survival.
He suggests that the economy needs tax cuts, but the current positive economic numbers that he is talking about is the result of the Obama economic policies, which we are still living under. It's a total contradiction.

(10,721 posts)The only valid point worth noting is that most Republicans don't give a damn if Trump is a crook.
Hell, they weren't even insulted when Trump told them to their face that he wouldn't lose a supporter if he murdered someone.

(11,760 posts)Trump said that arrests at the border are 80%, that Mexico has praised him saying that there is no more activity at their southern border because they know they aren't getting into the US. Then he and the Republicans say that the border wall is essential because immigrants are streaming across the border. Which is it? Have we all but completely halted the flow, or are they streaming in?
Trump says the economy has never looked better and it is all his doing, but then he says that we are getting hammered by other countries, that the job situation is terrible, and that we need to stimulate the economy. Which is it?
Trump and the Republicans lie constantly and they put out contradictory statements on a daily basis. They count on the stupidity of their supporters, which is not lacking (the numbers on stupidity are WAY UP in the ranks of Trump supporters).
