DMN: Russian oligarch money to GOP

You know it's bad when the Dallas Morning News is publishing about GOP $ ties to Russia

https://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/commentary/2017/08/03/tangled-web-connects-russian-oligarch-money-gop-campaigns

Party loyalty is often cited as the reason that GOP leaders have not been more outspoken in their criticism of President Donald Trump and his refusal to condemn Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election. Yet there may be another reason that top Republicans have not been more vocal in their condemnation. Perhaps it's because they have their own links to the Russian oligarchy that they would prefer go unnoticed.

Donald Trump and the political action committees for Mitch McConnell, Marco Rubio, Scott Walker, Lindsey Graham, John Kasich and John McCain accepted $7.35 million in contributions from a Ukrainian-born oligarch who is the business partner of two of Russian president Vladimir Putin's favorite oligarchs and a Russian government bank.

During the 2015-2016 election season, Ukrainian-born billionaire Leonid "Len" Blavatnik contributed $6.35 million to leading Republican candidates and incumbent senators. Mitch McConnell was the top recipient of Blavatnik's donations, collecting $2.5 million for his GOP Senate Leadership Fund under the names of two of Blavatnik's holding companies, Access Industries and AI Altep Holdings, according to Federal Election Commission documents and OpenSecrets.org.

That's why the Russians made attempts to hack blue Dallas County and why, per a Texas Tribune article last November, the Houston based Russian consular guy asked to monitor Houston polling sites (Harris County went blue, also)---request was denied.

He "only" won TX by 9 points. I say only because Repuke Pres candidates historically win by 15, 20, or more. He was scared shitless that he was at risk of losing the repuke crown jewel.

TX may look all red on a map but with Dallas County, Travis County (Austin), Harris County (Houston), and all the Latino communities in far South Texas and towards El Paso he knew that he was in trouble. Sure, the West Texas area/counties are bright red but the limited population of those counties cannot compete with the areas I listed above. Lots of land maybe but not a lot of people in the Western chunk of TX.

Given that Parscale's Project Alamo was based in San Antonio, there was a shitload of dirty business going on in TX....and I say that as someone who has lived in TX since 1986.

Glad to see the DMN publishing what they did. Once again..fuck Ted Cruz for insisting that no one in TX is "talking about Russia".

Yes to all Your points!
? for You, although I may not be able to articulate clearly, at the moment:
I find it hard to believe that, given the population #'s in cities vs rural areas, that more republikers voted.
Almost every city, of any size, is blue.
& last election, total # voters reportedly higher, especially early voting.
Hope I expressed my uncertainty clearly enuff.
Look forward to hearing Your thoughts!
