The shell of an armadillo is not that tough. I'm not sure how the bullet could bounce straight back in a ricochet. Maybe he was using an air rifle. Makes no sense to me.

I'm thinking he never hit the animal. One of his 3 bullets struck a rock or something as hard. The 'dillo scooted off in a fright or went underground. Cass county is in the far north east corner of Texas.
