Illinois Rep. Bustos one of key speakers at revived Iowa steak fryDES MOINES | The Harkin Steak Fry went by the wayside three years ago, but Polk County Democrats are reviving it.
The event won't have Tom Harkin's name attached, but its inaugural event will feature three prominent Democrats, including Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-Ill.
Bustos has increasingly gained a national reputation as a prominent voice for the Democrats as they seek to regain their footing after President Donald Trump's election. She and two House colleagues, Reps. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, and Seth Moulton, D-Mass., will be the guest speakers at the Sept. 30 fundraising event.
The Harkin Steak Fry was often a showcase for rising political stars and those who wanted to position themselves to run for president. Bill and Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama all spoke there.

Weekly Address Earlier This Year
Strong Women, Strong Communities
As a working mom who raised three sons, I know from experience that womens issues really are family issues.
Advocating for women and families has been an important part of my life and career. I have always firmly believed that women should have equal opportunities and the right to have their voices heard- whether its in the workplace, in the classroom or in government. As women, weve made great strides in all of these areas over my lifetime, but as long as women in the 17th district still earn just $.72 for every dollar a man makes at the same job, our work isnt finished.
This is why I strongly support policies to strengthen women across America such as equal pay for equal work, earned paid family leave, protecting a womans right to choose, renewing and improving the Violence Against Women Act, reducing sexual assaults on college campuses, and making sure that women always have access to preventative health and family planning services.
