Stephen Miller attacks Statue of Liberty poem, echoing popular white nationalist talking point

Miller became angry, replying that the sonnet on the Statue of Liberty was “added later” and therefore, does not reflect American values towards immigrants...

Miller’s comments were greeted enthusiastically by white nationalists on Twitter...

David Duke, a vocal Trump supporter and former Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan has devoted an entire chapter in one of his books to Emma Lazarus, the author of the poem, and the Statue of Liberty. Duke says Lazarus was “anxious to turn America into a refuge for the castoffs of the world.”...

Stormfront.org, a popular website among white supremacists that boasts the tagline, “Every month is White history month,” has a numerous discussion threads on the topic, including one titled, “Give Me Your Huddled Masses — The Jewess who tried to destroy the US!” Contributors to the forum wrote the poem should be “considered graffiti” and stress that Lazarus’ sonnet is “not part of the original” statue at all.

1. Does anyone else find the idea of a Jewish white nationalist kinda weird?

Maybe it's time for someone to sit down with Mr. Miller and explain some things to him.

2. Not anymore

The weird story of how MO got a Jewish governor is very creepy.

2015 a republican sate auditor committed suicide because his primary opponents were beginning an anti-Semitic whisper campaign. He wasn't Jewish But his grandfather was and had told him enough about his experiences to make Tom Schweich sensitive to it. He was actually an Episcopalian.

2016 Republicans manage to nominate a former Democrat who also happens to be a reform Jew and they won the governorship. Since elected, he has been Trump's protege. He's not driven by values or beliefs- only self promotion.

My read is that he saw that he could give republicans the gift of rehabilitating the party and made his way through that opening. He even outdoes Trump in the realm of making personal self interest the priority above all else. He has sold out to anti-Semitism and other bigotry in his self-promotion. He and Miller are probably both beyond help.

Maybe these guys Joe Lieberman style hardliners who have found themselves aligned with white power forces in anti-Muslim sentiment?

This guy worries me a lot. On top of that ambition, he has a stellar resume and is pretty smart if being a Rhodes scholar is any indication. He is young and dangrous.

3. Tasmanian Tiger

It sounds fictitious, but it is real and exceedingly rare. Assholes like Miller do exist in our population, just as they do in the LGBT population and other minority groups. It is important to remember they are the "exception" not "the rule". When you fan base includes David Duke (another DU'er posted the tweet), you know you have made a wrong turn in life. According to Wikipedia, he is a convert (his parents were liberals) via Wayne LaPierre and some bullshit about guns. People like him think the powers that be will overlook them, and they do, until they are the last of their kind, then they go the way the others did.

who shot that young black man just before his college graduation. He's a Nazi named Urbanski. Yes, a Polish Nazi.

Except that the Nazis believed that Poles and other Slavs were genetically inferior and should be exterminated so that their land could be given to proper Aryans. Mr. Urbanski seems not to know about that part.

It's not surprising Miller can't understand the beauty of this poem, but obviously aligning himself with the likes of David Duke is beyond horrible.
