Florida voters cancel their own registration

During a recent 20-day period, 1,715 Florida voters took themselves off the registration rolls.

The 117 percent spike in cancellations over the same period last year came as news spread of President Donald Trump's fraud commission and its request for voter data from all 50 states.

Did the request for voter information trigger the cancellations?

While the increase suggests a correlation, regular maintenance of the voting rolls, a routine required by state law and unrelated to the federal commission, might also explain the increase.

Here's what we do know: On June 28, Trump's official request for voter information, made by the commission's vice chairman, Kris Kobach, sought the names, addresses, birth dates, political parties, electoral participation histories and last four digits of the voter's Social Security number of every registered voter in the country.

Seems a bit like Fox News reporting. Ask a question, float around a couple of things with limited attachment, and then ask the question again.

the information supplied to the commission would not be affected by their removal, it's all history. kneejerk reaction imo.

and there is no way to know for sure why.

The article presented no findings to back up their question.

What are your thoughts on the knee jerk reaction of Pinellas residence?

Went for Trump more than Pinellas.

Lee County, also mentioned, went huge for Trump.

Your argument doesn't hold.

"maybe they don't mind their info being shared"

Statistically speaking, no one seems to mind if this is the data point used to make a larger point. Tho I've already stated I feel it is a flawed argument they are putting forward.

Some counties went up, some went down. The article didn't present any possible reasons outside of the "question" they asked. Said question is clearly not the answer. They couldn't even make the case for it.

"People are sick of this shit" is every single bit as good of a reason as the "question" asked in the article.

Why did they only take 20 days?

Did these people actually take themselves off the list?

What changes have there been?

This article is unfortunately what journalism has become. Fox news reporting. Ask a question, discuss some things that might be in the same universe, then ask the question again.

There are 67 counties in Florida.

Almost 13 million registered voters. We are talking statistical insignificance.

This article is horrid. I get the Tampa Bay Times delivered to my door.

Do 12 Pulitzers mean they are amazing every time? Not even close. Not sure where the thought that 12 pulitzers means they can't put out some really bad stuff. They do.

snip...

Nearly two weeks have elapsed since the commission requested all of the state’s publicly available voter data, and state and county elections offices say they’re still being flooded with calls and emails from voters with two chief complaints: they don’t trust President Donald Trump’s voter integrity commission, and they didn’t realize just how much of their voter registration information was already public under state law.
