So many on the left tried to convince us that this Russia story was bogus

Thank the gods for the persistence of establishment neoliberal corporatists.

Thank the gods that Russia wasn't able to hack our opinions and make us believe that Hillary lost in a fair fight.

I thank everyone who stood up for our first female nominee who won the popular vote by 3 million, despite so much bullshit.

The propaganda aimed at right wingers is fairly obvious except to those who are being brainwashed. The propaganda aimed at progressives, with the intent to divide and weaken all opposition to the hard right Republicans, is less obvious. It is highly effective, though. I know some who are completely brainwashed into thinking that it is somehow noble and wise to tear down the Democratic Party.

I saw a car yesterday proudly displaying a bumper sticker saying "I wrote in Bernie." I'm in a purple state. Hillary could have won here. How could anybody still think it was a good idea to vote against her.

Sad.

We had our heads in the sand and failed to notice in time to stop the Russian involvement.
I'll grant you that. But we never tried to convince people it wasn't happening.

Hillary's group was very vocal about the Russian involvement, also many others.

Yes, that is a rhetorical question, I know you do. It's just that I get tired of seeing the word "left" so frequently assigned to describe the type of sentiments often expressed at JPR. Actually "The Left" comprises a significant segment of the Democratic Party. And by far most of the left leaning Independent who do not want to self identify as Democrats clearly preferred Hillary over Trump in 2016, and did not consider Russian attacks "bogus". There was a pretty broad consensus, outside of the Republican Party, that the Russia story is, and was, real. That includes the Left, although there are exceptions to that and we all know where to go looking for them (assuming one knows how to distinguish between the bots, trolls and actual real people)

Here's an OP I posted on DU in February FYI:

I'm a leftist who is, in the big picture, strongly "Pro-American" & "Anti-Russian"

I took flack for it, for sure. I was banned from a thread on another forum the night of the election for just NOTICING that the results didn't seem to jive with 12 of the 13 polls, and just asking the question if it's possible that Russia interfered. I am NOT a conspiracy theorist kind of person, and I TOTALLY accept real election results. But something seemed to be not quite right.

It was obvious from the start that the media, the politicians, and most others wanted the American voters to have confidence in the election system. As if not vocalizing questions would make the issues go away.

I remember when my concerns started jelling...it was that that request to Russia from the campaign trail by Trump, "Russia, if you're listening....we need those missing emails found!" Followed a few days later by Wikileaks dumping a lot of stuff against Clinton. I pointed that out, but was ignored. Maybe it's nothing, I thought.

Another time was a speech he gave at a rally in Pennsylvania. Something about it raised a red flag to me. I pointed it out. No one paid attention. I don't blame them, really. It sounded like I was paranoid & wacko.

As a political junkie who has watched more debates and campaign speeches than I could count, who follows national elections compulsively...I was picking up on some weird stuff that led me to think that Russia was helping Trump, that something was wrong. Some things in print don't sound suspicious, but when you hear them, there's something wrong.

I am not happy this turned out to be true. But since it is, I am so glad that others see it, too, now! And it's not just wacky ME, being paranoid and sour grapes. And I'm glad the media finally came to their senses. They were on board from election night with everything being on the up and up, nothing wrong here, Trump won fairly and squarely.

Clinton called him out for being a Russian Puppet, if he wins...remember that? Yeah...it was getting to be obvious at that point. Trump's response was, "No. No Puppet, No Puppet. You're the puppet."

I consider my self to be pretty far left of center. Equal pay for equal work, Healthcare for all, $15 Minimum wage, reverse Citizens United, LGBT equality, immigration reform i.e. Dreamers program, etc. So I am confused when you say "the left" because I feel that includes me and many others like me who sincerely feel the Russians and Trump are complicit in usurping our election and Democracy.

Sat Jul 22, 2017, 07:07 PM

Following Mueller's every subpoena, reading conspiracy Twitter, poring over obscure constitutional essays?

It distracts us. Me, too. I have to remind myself that, while interesting, I have absolutely no say in the Russia investigations. I read Spider-Man comic books, too. Same thing, really. Interesting, but I have no say in the plot or outcome.

It distracts us from healthcare "reform." The proposed gutting of the endangered species act. The scrapping of rules set up to protect GLBTQ kids, the oversight of for-profit colleges. Sessions' rollbacks on Obama's fairly mild criminal justice reform. Consent decrees meant to protect minority communities abandoned. Rolling back DUBYA'S regulations, for god's sake.

I could go on all day. It's overwhelming and incredibly depressing, isn't it?

But THOSE subjects are things I MIGHT be able to influence. Discussions with state and local politicians, calls to the national ones (I miss you, Harry Reid!), organizing small actions of resistance among my friends and neighbors. But Russia? Can't control it, can't influence it, gotta let it go, if only for my own sanity.

(But if/when Trump fires Mueller, I'll be the first one in the streets. Hopefully other DUers will be with me, either there or trying to post bail )

Remember all the problems with voter registration rolls during the primaries? There was fear that it was due to a hacking test run.

Inside the Secret Plan to Stop Vladimir Putin’s U.S. Election Plot

"With just weeks to go until the vote, the White House cybersecurity team realized there was little it could do to stop a Russian attempt to undermine the credibility of the vote on Election Day, so it shifted into damage-control mode. In late October, the White House distributed its 15-page plan to deal with an Election Day attack to the top cybersecurity officials across the federal government."
