Without writing a completely new bill and getting it passed through Congress. I think it is going to be either all or nothing. Either the entire bill gets extended or it expires.. Democrats can write a new Tax Bill and try to get it passed in a Republican controlled Congress, and that might be a very good approach; it would get Republicans on record voting against tax cuts for 95% of Americans...There is no way they will allow a partial bill to be renewed, and I am not sure even how they could do that...Without a completely new bill we are going to witness another capitulation by Democrats, and that will do some real damage to the Democratic base, if there even is such a thing..

(345 posts)Even if they "extend them" it is still a new bill saying we push the termination date of these tax cuts back.

(62,444 posts)IMHO, it would be much better to let the Bush cuts expire _in toto_ and then introduce an under 250K tax relief bill, just to put the R's on the hot seat voting against a tax cut for ordinary people.
If it goes down that way, we'd even get the remaining teabaggers on our side in passing the cut.

(10,437 posts)Dems: Here's the new bill to keep reduced taxes but only on income up to 250k. Let's see you vote against that and explain it to the public!
Boehner: Here it is amended to include all incomes. Let's see you vote against that and explain it to the public!
