No room at the inn (In Hamburg)

Here's to the winners: "White House officials"

(begin quote)President Trump Apparently Couldn't Find A Hotel To Book For The G20 Summit

He is one of the most powerful people in the world. He is coming to the meeting of 20 powerful countries. And he has a problem: no hotel room for the G20.

White House officials apparently waited too long to book accommodations for President Trump, leaving him without a hotel in Hamburg, Germany, as world leaders converge for the G20 summit.

Organizers announced the scheduled summit in February 2016, which requires 9,000 hotel rooms to accommodate world leaders, their sizable staffs, and security details.(endquote)

Don't they have a Days Inn in Hamburg?

And the rest of the delegation is staying at the UN Consulate.

4. Yeah, Hamburg took pity on the delegation

Jeez, this so-called "president" is an embarrassment. I thought W was (and it's true, he was) but even he didn't reach the level (depths) of contradicting U.S. Intelligence agencies on foreign soil. Now the WH people can't even book a hotel.

Even though most of the pics showing are from the Cavern, this was recorded at the Star Club in Hamburg, last week in December 1962.

McDonald's is catering a 'continental breakfast' in the morning.
Shower facilities will be available only for senior personnel.
The rest will be able to 'wash up'.

15. But Trump forgot to hire anyone to do that job.

The person in the White House who did that was summarily fired when Trump took office, along with everyone else. They simply forgot that someone had to handle such details. So, nobody was around to remind them about booking rooms.

I heard that Trump tried to find a room on Trivago, using his cell phone on Monday, but with no luck. He finally found one, but his credit card was declined. Reason: Fraud prevention.

20. I don't know the details, really, but Trump did fire everyone

working on the White House staff when he took office. Among those were very experienced people who handled all sorts of complicated arrangements, etc. For example, there is a White House Chief of Protocol, who advises the President and staff on how to behave when dealing with people from different cultures, and so forth. That post still has not been filled. I'm sure there has been a Travel Office in the White House that was once full of experts at arranging the details of all sorts of trips, including international trips. The head of that office would have made short work of booking in Hamburg, even on short notice. You can't book something like a presidential entourage without a lot of experience. I'm sure everyone in that office was canned, too.

The thing is that a lot of those White House staff people have worked for multiple administrations. They're not really political jobs, so experience is the thing they bring to the table. Trump just did a clean sweep of White House staffers, and then did not replace a lot of them. He came to the job knowing literally nothing about the job, so he didn't understand how important all of those experienced people really are.

So, Trump goes to Hamburg with no rooms arranged for him and his numerous staff people. At the last minute, accommodations were arranged, with the help of the German government but they're not ideal. Other countries' delegations have taken over entire hotels to handle their needs. Normally, our entourage would have done the same, but nobody did the arrangements until too late.

It's not just rooms, either. Security staff gets entire floors above and below the President's floor. Normally, an entire hotel is booked so enough space and enough security can be arranged. There were people in the White House who understood all that and who knew how to arrange it, even if they had to throw some weight around to bump some other national entourage. It's a difficult coordinated job, every time the President travels overseas.

The whole thing is a failure on the Trump administration's fault, for not retaining experienced people who already knew how to do all of that. Everyone was fired, and nobody knew how to hire qualified replacements. So, there they are in Hamburg, with some staff probably sleeping on the floor at the consulate building there, and the rest crammed into a too small building with the President's close party.

It's hilarious, really, but presents a real security risk in many ways.

Incompetent does not describe these morons. Is this just WH or also State Department where there are so many vacancies?

30. State Department, too.

And that's even worse. We're lacking ambassadors, now, in most countries, and the Assistant Secretaries for most regions and specialized functions remain to be appointed. The State Department is running on empty, with almost nobody in charge. The Trump administration has not even named people for most positions, and there seems to be no movement in the Senate to confirm the ones he has named.

It's a terrible mess, and that's just the beginning. All of the Executive Branch agencies and departments have the same situation. They canned everyone who was an Obama appointee, but have yet to even start naming people to take their places. There is no direction at all in most of them.

The goal appears to be to shut them all down by not having anyone in charge. Nothing gets done without those second-level managers. Nothing.
