By Jason Easley on Mon, Jul 3rd, 2017 at 2:12 pm
Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh called Trumps voter fraud commission illegal and debunked Trumps entire voter fraud conspiracy in a blistering statement.
Here is AG Froshs statement:
Frosh was correct on both of his main points. Trumps story about voter fraud costing him the popular vote is false, and what Trumps commission is attempting to do is an illegal invasion of privacy. Elections are the constitutional power of the states, so the reason why so many states that the President won are refusing his request of sensitive voter data is on the basis of states rights.
AG Frosh the other major concern. The Trump commission is asking for sensitive personal data to try to prove one of the Presidents fantasy conspiracy theories. If the federal government got the data on the nations voters, Trump would be able to find a reason to justify a massive purge of voters.
Frosh said what many Secretaries of State and election officials have been reluctant to express directly. The Trump voter fraud commission is an illegal fishing expedition that is trying to justify a presidential fantasy.
Trump is trying to turn a fake conspiracy into a very real voter purge, which is why election officials are across the country are telling the Presidents commission to get lost.

(53,792 posts)With the info he and trump are demanding, he wouldn't have to search out just similar sounding AA, Latino and Asian names most likely to vote Dem, he could just purge similar sounding Dem names as party affiliation of each voter is on the list of info requested.
That request is much more devious than just trying to prove trump won the popular vote in 2016.

(12,448 posts)I emailed Brian Frosh about this just this morning. Not taking credit; I imagine he got a LOT of emails. Indivisible Montgomery sent out an email with his and the Election Commissioner's email addy and phone #s/ I'm VERY glad he responded as strongly as he did. Now, as for Larry Hogan....still crickets.

(19,204 posts)does anyone really expect him to say, "Oh, OK guys. Sorry about that".
He'll come back with different iterations of this until he either gets his way, or he ends up firing someone, or he abolishes Maryland as a State. You know what I mean. He's NOT going to let this go until he's made a total jerk out of himself ONCE AGAIN. That's what he does. That's who he is. You can now expect vicious 'tweets' about Attorney General Frosh, the State of Maryland, Democrats in general, Morning Joe and Mika, CNN, Maryland Crab Cakes, Halloween etc. etc. etc.
It's Trump, folks.

(78 posts)If most or all of the states' reply that there is no voter fraud forcefully, like Maryland, does this give ammunition to the "Russia didn't hack the election" argument?
Hmm

(4,750 posts)Trump is claiming that VOTERS are committing fraud -- that eligible voters are voting more than once, and that ineligible people (non-citizens) are also voting, and that both are doing so in huge numbers, enough to give Clinton a very large popular vote edge over him (because all of those fraudulent votes were for her, in his crappy reasoning). There is no evidence that this is the case.
That claim is unrelated to the fact that RUSSIA has interfered (to a degree that is not fully known yet) with our last presidential election by means of hacking. There IS evidence of this.
Trump, of course, wants us to believe the FALSE claim about voters. He has yet to show any interest in the FACTUAL evidence of the Russian hacking.

(51,129 posts)This does not mean there was no rigging of the election. Trump and his cabal are using the false voter fraud narrative to suppress the election rigging evidence.

(4,291 posts)I live in Florida, and the current administration is only too happy to bend-over-and-grab-ankles with any request from Drumpf or his minions. Gov. Snott has been anointed by Cheetolini to replace Sen. Bill Nelson, so the guy who defrauded the US Government of millions of healthcare dollars is now positioning himself to become part of that very level of government. (Kafka: eat your heart out!)
My question: is there a way we can keep our State officials from forwarding our personal information to this commission? Or -- given their knee-jerk response to this request (guessing that my personal identity info is already in the unsecured mailbox per the instructions) -- how can citizens legally stop the publication of our sensitive information?

(22,822 posts)The Maryland réponse is perfect. Trump can purchase legally available voter data on the market.
