Antiabortion ads from outlier presidential candidate raise eyebrows

Antiabortion activist Randall Terry, running for president as a Democrat, is running graphic ads about abortion in early primary states. Free-speech rules allow federal candidates to run uncensored ads.

By Stacy Teicher Khadaroo, Staff writer / December 30, 2011

NASHUA, N.H.
Amid the otherwise cheerful holiday TV lineup, some graphic antiabortion ads have been causing viewers to do a double take in Iowa, New Hampshire, and several other states.

Randall Terry, long known for opposing abortion and being willing to risk arrest to protest it, is running for president – on the Democratic side. His campaign is focused on opposition to President Obama for what Mr. Terry calls an agenda of “child killing,” according to a press release announcing his candidacy last January.

Terry acknowledges his campaign is designed to take advantage of free-speech regulations allowing federal candidates to run uncensored ads. “We will use FEC and FCC laws for federal candidates to bring America face to face with this massacre of the innocents,” the release says.

I wish that an anti-war candidate or some other progressive would take a similar track, forcing the stations to air their ads which would normally be refused.

Reading that page enlightened me to his "family values." Disgusting. Previously I only knew of him for his anti-abortion activities, but nothing of his other flaws.

There you have one criminal conviction resulting in 5 months in jail. I am sure there are more.

6. Had a local candidate doing the same thing...I talked with news station employees to find out

When he would be bringing his money to them for the ads. The station employees that I spoke with hated that he was taking advantage of the political ad rules to show aborted fetuses to the tv audience, even during the day when children might see the ads.

The employees would tell me when he was scheduled to be there. I would show up in the parking lot at the tv stations and show him pictures of my 4yr old daughter who saw the ad while playing in the tv room. I pleaded for him to stop showing the ads...I yelled at him for hurting my child...I'm a little surprised that he didn't call the cops or security.

I sought out a local news broadcaster to ask him to do a piece on the harm that these ads do. He said he didn't want to get involved cause the ads were legal.

I called the FEC to get an explanation as to why this slimball was allowed to show this shit. I complained loudly and they were sympathetic but couldn't do anything to help.
