Police: Man fires AK-47 while driving down Florida highway

MIAMI -- A man fired an AK-47 rifle while driving down a Florida highway, damaging at least two passing vehicles, police say.

Miami-Dade Police say the 37-year-old suspect began shooting from inside his burgundy Toyota Corolla at about 1 a.m. Monday as he was driving south on the Palmetto Expressway, CBS Miami reports.

At least two vehicles were struck by bullets.

Miami-Dade Police Officer Dan Ferrin said one victim drove himself to a hospital with a minor head injury due to debris from the shooting. Police said the suspect was grazed by a bullet in the face during the exchange.

I would have wondered why this had not yet happened in my state...

It's kind of like how California adopts car emission standards that are later then adopted by the country as a whole. Here in FL, we are at the bleeding edge of crazy shit, some of which gets exported to other states after we invent it...

...and remember, there's Florida and then there is the special area of Florida called Little Havana! Once you get South of alligator alley, the level of crazy goes off the charts.

Chances are the cops wouldn't have been involved except his SunPass for the express toll was out of $.

If a buttstock was attached to it, it would be a "SBR" or "Short Barreled Rifle" and require a special permit to comply with 1934's National Firearm Act. SBRs are often referred to as "NFA weapons".

Some manufacturers have figured out how to circumvent the buttstock restriction on SBRs be adding a hard plastic "brace" that functions as a stock but isn't really a stock.
