Is too intellectual for me. I swear they lose me every time when they go off on their college dormroom-likee discussions every week. Am I the only one? Is it because I'm too stoopit?

(13,071 posts)It is the best show. And I am on the West coast...so imagine the dedication it takes to watch that early show.

(7,767 posts)Is my favorite on MSNBC-I wish he was on Fridays instead of them starting the prison shows an hour early. I love Karen Finney and Krystal Ball too although Krystal's new show is a little too young for me...

(111,110 posts)It usually delves a little deeper than most weekend shows and Chris has a great knack for putting it into perspective.
Intellectual? Perhaps?

(4,919 posts)... so that I can look up something they're talking about on Wikipedia, etc. on my iPad. Up is also a source for book recommendations I definitely feel smarter after watching the show. However, it takes me about 3 1/2 hours to watch one episode.

(47,992 posts)they think. The difference is often just language, jargon, definitions and as long as Hayes et al don't do inside references, personal clique stuff, all you really need to do is grab a few definitions and then formulate your own questions and then try to figure out the answers to you own questions. Once you get even a minimal base under you on the language, you'll be surprised how much you can get out of stuff. Keep a good internet dictionary on hand and take it one step/word at a time.
Remember this is the Christopher Hayes who just recently wrote about elitism. Perhaps he needs a note from you about how he should take more pains to integrate brief explanation as he moderates discussion. The way a teacher does.
Believe me (I'm no great intellect myself, but I'm pretty competent with stuff), you can do this; you just need to know HOW to go about doing it, what the steps are. Don't give up.

(17,088 posts)Is it OK for the rest of us to enjoy it, anyways, or must we program everything for the lowest common denominator?

(7,767 posts)Because my comment about Chris' show could actually get it cancelled and I would hate to be the reason that you were deprived of your weekend morning fix of the intelligentsia.

(7,767 posts)Bugs Bunny cartoons helped to shape my early artistic viewpoint-think of all the great music we were exposed to that we would never have even heard had it not been for Looney Tunes...
