First of all I'd like to say I am a woman and I am NOT a prude and there is nothing wrong with women showing their legs.
I'm not going to post photos because all the examples I've found are copy-written.
But here are a few examples, if you've watched any of the below mentioned shows I am guessin' you've noticed.
1) On FoxNews Megan Kelley's desk has a clear plexiglass front that frames her legs and the network has even given her a clear plexiglass box to rest her feet on so that her feet do not dangle. It is bizarre.
2) On 'The Five' on FoxNews they have Kimberly Guilfoyle sitting at the left of the table so her legs can always stretch out in front of the table - but they have Dana Perino behind the table where her legs do not show probably because she has short legs due to being five foot one inch tall.
3) On Fox & Friends early in the morning they ALWAYS have a woman in the center of the couch with a very short skirt.
4) And even on MSNBC the other day I noticed a couple of shows that were highlighting women's legs (can't remember which ones at the moment)
So the question is: Do you think it is offensive for the networks to be 'showcasing' women's legs on cable news shows?

(10,337 posts)They are not intelligent adults. I watched a "Newscast" in Arizona tonight where I could actually see the newsbimbo's undergarments. What passes for news today is newsfotainment and every second of what you see on the T.V. is planned. This was not a slip of the camera, this is propaganda, plain and simple. Hell, if you listen to today's "news", we are not even in a war.
HEY! YOU CAN SEE HER PANTIES! Who the hell cares how many of the rich peoples cannon fodder died today?
Thnk you for your service.

(22,143 posts)So I can't answer your strangely worded question with any of the responses provided. I don't have a problem looking at a nice set of legs in any situation. However, having the looks supersede the substance is offensive to me personally. That's the Sarah Palin thing, the Faux thing and now the S.E. Cupp thing. Empty heads parroting right wing talking points with no substance but looking pretty fuckable while doing it. Appeal to the lizard brain of the righties. They can only think about one thing at a time. It's very effective.
I find Rachel Maddow to be hotter because of this. I find her attractive because that isn't the focus of her show, even though it could be. She's so much more genuine and personable. She's not afraid to be dorky and she's so comfortable in her skin. Did I mention how smart she is?
Gods, I sound like a teenager.

(3,539 posts)I just notice any more. Don't get me wrong, even in my advanced years I still enjoy a well turned ankle.
It's just that MSM feels that it is an absolute requirement to flash body parts around and after a while you learn to ignore it.

(163 posts)It is more prossy than you think....all the leggy women are wearing stilettos....especially on the Five. The cameras frequently zoom out for a panoramic views ...lots of long legs and spiked heals i never see women wear on the street. It is all part of the infotainment for Fox's largely, white, male teabagger types. I've assumed Dana Perino doesn't have the legs to compete in the skin show.
So, it's more about stlletos than legs.
I am a male -- and no, I don't watch the Five....just flipped past and noticed.....it is the dumbest show on cable.

(67,190 posts)So no, I am not offended. Rather have them at home playing with themselves than be out in the general public.

(25,699 posts)But, it wouldn't surprise me. Especially with Fox; the typical viewer of Fox values women in proportion to the amount of visible skin.
Noted "no, never noticed" because, well, never noticed, and i'm not sure if it'd be offensive or not.

(27,630 posts)The sight of Neil Cavuto. That guy is way too ugly to be a "news anchor". His face is ugly, his jowls jiggle, his voice sounds like a muppet character.
If we are going to talk about double standards, how about that? No way would a similarly unattractive woman be allowed to dominate the television screen.

(20,277 posts)I don't watch Fox at all.
Since I have a good pair of legs myself, why would I find them offensive.

(147 posts)This is so common we hardly notice it anymore. Ever watch the camera angles on Food Network's "Everyday Italian"? The buxom host always leans into a high placed camera with a low cut top. Subliminal shots to distract us from the lack of content. It is a beautiful bow on an empty box.

(31,706 posts)...I do recall seeing Tamron Hall show a little leg now and then and Mika's gams get in the pictures in the bumpers before they go to commercial break. Yawn. But then I've always found it interesting how titilation is used...and, yes it is.
Sex sells...even on cable news...and especially on local news. This is the Joel Cheatwood "if it bleeds it leads" philosophy. He "reinvented" local TV news in the 80s with Don Henley's "bubble-headed bleach blondes" and has been consulting for faux for years. In a highly competitive business where every ratings point matters the networks know that a pretty face keeps dials locked in no matter how vapid they sound.
Short of the rare times where a real emergency is taking place, "news" on the teevee is more infotainment and opionion...especially on the cables. The prime business of these corporates are not to inform but to entertain...and eye candy has and does pull in viewers. Blame human nature...
