Pelosi Is Correct No Impeachment of Trump

Whatever Pelosi’s faults and failings, she’s exhibiting political wisdom in this regard.

The Senate would never convict Trump, and he would go into the 2020 General Election ‘exonerated,’ having put the ‘Russia Thing’ behind him.

Indeed, if Trump were forced out of office Pence would be president – and Pence is worse than Trump; Pence would also have a better chance of winning the presidency in 2020, and we’d be facing a likely 12 years of incompetent Republican rule, something America would clearly not survive.

No, Trump needs to be removed from office by the American people, the same voters who put him in office, where those voters acknowledge that they were wrong in 2016 and have corrected their mistake by electing a Democrat president in 2020.

She said performance, and reckless behavior by itself are not grounds for impeachment. However, if it can be shown he broke the law, those ARE GROUNDS FOR IMPEACHMENT.

28 people I know who voted for Trump are no longer supporting him and have been quiet on FB for weeks. They did not even contend when I posted about the news today and stated"I never want to hear about her emails again." The Trump voters who supported Obama will come around, as long as he is there screwing up.

This country needs to learn the lesson that you need to elect a professional to high level elected office. This anti-establishment BS needs to be done away with.

She was asked about the calls of some of the Dem House members to start impeachment proceedings NOW. Her response was that she did not 'subscribe to that', with 'that' being those members' posture, because she believed that the process should not be started until the facts were assembled.

Of course, starting impeachment proceedings in the House is in the Republicans' hands right now, not Nancy Pelosi's.

15. Regardless of what she said it's a tall order at this stage

I'm very bullish about 2018, especially the house, but we could retake the senate and still not get anywhere near the 66-67 votes in the senate that would be needed to convict and remove him from office. This is why Bill Clinton was not removed from office after being impeached by the house.

Any impeachment would need GOP senate votes, the party of party before country. It's difficult to see that happening at the moment. In the future? To be determined.

16. Trump will be not impeached unless

Democrats first take back the House of Representatives. A Republican majority in the Senate might still vote in favor of impeaching the president, but nothing happens until a simple majority of the House votes to bring forth articles. I think it's safe to say that Paul Ryan will never allow that vote to happen. So 2019, more specifically November of 2018, is our next opportunity to change that.

In the meantime, there's a 25th Amendment remedy for the GOP that cuts Congress out (Article 4, specifically), and you will see that it's been the topic of discussion for at least the past 90 days (including on Rachel Maddow's show). Whether they employ that sooner than 18 months from now -- or not -- probably depends on the level of public outcry.
