Nate Silver suggests the GOP strategy on the health care vote

If the bill quietly dies in the Senate this summer, for instance, it’s not clear that a vote taken in May 2017 will be at the top of voters’ minds in November 2018.

I suspect this is exactly what the GOP is planning. Give the far right a meaningless victory today, let the senate kill Trumpcare in the middle of summer when no one is paying attention, and hope that by election day 2018 everyone has forgotten about today's vote

1. Nope.

They plan to tinker with it... just enough to "fix" it and then pass it.

They can't pass tax reform unless they pass this huge tax cut first.

on the TV and the air waves. One thing Republicans do is purchase cheap air time on the radio and play ads until your want to throw the radio....Democrats need to follow suit. Every congressional race should be hit with a deluge.

And if some left leaning organization or wealthy benefactor wants to start an operation that spreads fake news on Facebook targeting the GOP I'll be the first to look the other way. We've entered win at all costs territory. Within the law, of course.

we need every one of our talking heads to hammer this point, to mention it every time they get in front of a camera from now until the end of fucking time.

Yeah, there will be more horrors, but we need to use the talking points all day every day, until it becomes set in the minds of even the dumbest right winger that Republicans want them DEAD.

They left too much evidence around with their congratulatory selfies posted here, there and yonder. The press did its job by kindly recording every moment so there is a record complete with sound of who said and did what today. They will get to re-live May 4, 2017 over and over like Ground Hog Day. I hope they enjoyed it because it is not going away.

It could be one of those moments when people will remember exactly where they were and what they were doing the moment they heard the news.

But, I guess with the GOP in total power, ugly things will be happening for months on end.

10. I'm smelling the same kind of complacent confidence that predicted Trump didn't have a chance
Fri May 5, 2017, 03:43 AM

The same "very serious people" on both sides of the aisle -- Dem and GOP -- are treating this as if it's already dead. It isn't. And any Republican who thinks this will all blow over by 2018 because three or four GOP "moderates" in the Senate are going to stand on principle is deluding himself. The Senate will pass a bill, one that will be much closer to the House bill than any "serious observer" realizes. The GOP has made spitting on Obama's achievements, especially the ACA, the cornerstone of their party platform. They've committed themselves to this the same way Hitler committed Germany to the war. The ships have been burned and there's no turning back.

12. There is one MASSIVE flaw with this strategy by Nate Silver...

It is called Trump.

Trump won't let it die. Period. He is a fighter and a winner. That is his only game due to his ego. If it is dying in the Senate Trump will be tweeting his orange turd fingers off every day about it keeping it top of mind.

It won't make it through the Senate. The House Republicans are counting on the
Senate to save them from their own self-inflicted damage. They want to pass some legislation--ANY legislation--so they can claim to have kept their promise on Obamacare. And Cheato is seriously badgering them to get something passed so he can add it to his list of "accomplishments."

But most House members absolutely do NOT want that bill to land on Cheato's desk to be signed, so they are counting on its being killed in the Senate.

If it does end up getting to Trump to be signed, they will be as freaked out as Trump was when he actually got stuck with being president.
