How can anyone be stupid enough to listen to this asshole?

Rush Limbaugh, of course.

My Dad used to listen to him, once I showed Dad what a liar Rush was, my Dad "harrumped" and the next day had the fat swine on again.

Rush Limbaugh falsely claimed that job losses in 2008 were a reaction to President Obama's election in November of that year. In fact, the U.S. economy began losing jobs in February 2008, and the pace of job losses began to accelerate prior to the election.

That quote is frequently attributed to PT Barnum, but that attribution is actually disputed. (There's a great Wiki article about his at this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/There's_a_sucker_born_every_minute )

Anyhow, no matter who actually said it, that quote pretty much sums up Rush's appeal. He's a noxious windbag and I expect you'll hear more interesting and appealing stuff coming out of a flatulent buzzard.

They just want someone "important" to tell them that their problems are all somebody else's fault.

There is not a doubt in my mind.
Maintain the status quo like the 1750's and protect his wealth.

That's his cover. He knows that the Dittoheads internalise every word but whenever he gets serious pushback, he just claims to be joking.
