(54,770 posts)would really help us. Even if you got Pence too, Ryan is next.
All we really have to do is Take back one or both houses of congress, and Trump will not be able to do anything.
Unless you want to count continuing to make a fool of himself and being the laughing stock of the international community as doing something.

(48,988 posts)When Nixon resigned, Ford ascended, but the Speaker of the House did not move. Ford appointed a new VP: Rockefeller.
The only way to force Ryan in as President would be to impeach both tRump and Pence and then convict them simultaneously. This would be a good thing because it would smash Ryan's ambitions to be like Reagan in 2024 after a one-term Democrat in 2020 (he hopes). Good, but practically impossible and they could thwart it by get one or the other to resign first and thus a new VP would be appointed either way. Ryan would decline any offer of appointment because he does not want to be like Ford in 1976.

(4,033 posts)If Trump is impeached, then Pence becomes President. He then proceeds to nominate a new Veep, who has to be confirmed by Congress. Yes, he could nominate Ryan, but there is nothing that requires him to do so.
Spiro Agnew was Nixon's Veep. He resigned in disgrace and Nixon. Nixon then appointed Gerald Ford (who was the House minority leader).
Then Nixon resigned, Ford appointed Nelson Rockefeller, former Gov of NY, as his Veep.
So, Pence could nominate Ryan, but he could also nominate anyone else from insite or outside Congress.

(54,770 posts)That's why I said, even if we got Pence too. Besides, what kind of cretin would you expect Pence to nominate for VP?
Point is, Trump is not likely to be impeached . If he is, I doubt we will be better off, they are all vile.

(48,988 posts)Constitutional scholars need to get creative to find a judicious way.
It is unConstitutional for the thieves to steal the election and get to keep it. Either give it to the woman elected by a majority of voters or hold a new election in 2018 (for a four year term).

(40,416 posts)That's right! You're not going to be able to do that.
Impeachment and trial in the Senate takes months. And people here suggest that it be done twice????? Certainly it could not be done simultaneously!
We are in a real pickle here.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)they'd appoint, if possible, as VP who is not at least as bad a Ryan?
That's the "pickle."
longship
(40,416 posts)Plus, once impeached they would have to be convicted in the Senate by a 2/3 majority. That is something somebody is going to have to explain how that is accomplished.
That's right. It does not happen. Not even once, let alone twice, SIMUL-FUCKING-TANEOUSLY!!
Some folks are in dreamland here.
My best to you.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)than Ryan, assuming Congress even entertained a nomination from Pence while he is under suspicion if that is the way it was played out, as well?
Do you think if Pence were elevated to Prez, he'd nominate Bernie Sanders, Clinton, or the most centrist GOPer? I don't.
First off, I don't think Trump will be impeached, no matter how much we pray for it. Second, in the unlikely event it happened, we'd end up with Pence who is vile too. No matter who he might nominate for VP, assuming Pence is not under suspicion, I don't see anyone better than the key GOPer players, all at least as vile as Trump, being nominated. Finally, if Trump is not impeached, Pence wouldn't be either. So, it's all moot.
We are screwed or "in a pickle" no matter what.

(40,416 posts)If Drumpf is impeached and convicted we will be stuck with Pence, who is a maniacal theocrat. I cannot decide who is worse. I am thinking maybe Pence because he might achieve a veneer of legitimacy simply because of a Drumpf impeachment and removal. Then we'd have to fight against that in the next federal election, regardless of whether that is 2018 or 2020.
This pickle is a real dilly!

Pence is evil because he worships evil and believes it's the way, the truth and the light.

(254 posts)...to remove even one of these MF'ers? So far all I hear is a lot of talk of maybe's this, maybe that, but still no movement. I understand that an impeachment is really a long shot given the pukes own both houses of congress. It seems to me that some prosecutor from somewhere needs to file a law suit in federal court. I would begin with a charge that they knowingly lied to everyone including congress. I'd add on some kind of charge that relates to treason. But hey, it is only my opinion. What do the federal laws say about treason?

(3,577 posts)Well before Pence joined the Trump train, there were yard signs in Indiana that read "Fire Mike Pence."
An enterprising college student has placed one of those signs in his or her dormitory window, facing one of the major thoroughfares.
Under "FIRE MIKE PENCE," the student has placed a home-made sign that reads "INTO THE SUN."

(5,801 posts)his nonexistent "credentials" for being the Vice President of these United States:
a former RW hate-talker radio host
a failed, widely reviled, one-term governor
His political career was over. Stick a fork in him--until the con came along, needing the religious crackpot vote--at which point punce glommed on for dear life. Thanks to voter suppression and Vlad, he's suddenly gone from zero to VP.
Now that he's in, he's a joke traveling internationally and supposedly "representing" the U.S. on the world stage.
Leaders of other countries know more than most U.S. voters--punce is a dominionist who wants Xtian sharia law in the U.S.
Oh, and he's a kochbot who wants to take healthcare away from the peasantry.
No one should take this dunce seriously.

(38,309 posts)The owners of the Republican Party favor politicians who can be controlled.
Ronald Reagan would say or do anything for a blow job, and was later so senile all they had to do was put a paper in front of him and he'd sign it, possibly believing he was a high ranking U.S. Army officer in Europe liberating prisoners at Auschwitz.
Trump likes cheering crowds, ass kissing yes-men, and watching kinky golden shower sex stuff. He's going senile too.
Pence is creepy, Jerry Sandusky "Touched" creepy, a guy you wouldn't trust to take care of your children or farm animals, the sort of fellow you might find in the E.R. at two o'clock in the morning with a Mrs. Butterworth's bottle stuck up his ass, swearing on his Bible it was some kind of freakish accident.
