(10,893 posts)something was odd when none of the biggest critics of it could present any hard evidence (rather than emotionally-based reasons) for why it was a bad deal. People like Ed Schultz (who now works for RT) called it "NAFTA on steroids" again and again. Did any of them even bother to read the entire document?

(7,820 posts)For supporting a Democratic candidate whose positions were not that different then Kaine's (who they have no issue with) It's the hypocrisy and the any chance to take a swipe at Sanders that gets old.

(7,820 posts)Seems to have waited until they got to the run-off stage to do so. His call. As for criticizing the party, I consider myself a Dem but definitely think there are areas we can fix.
Whatever. Some of us still have a lot of respect for Bernie and more importantly think his ideas are the direction we should head in as a party and country. Some have serious issues with him. I just find the bashing tiresome and counterproductive considering 40+ % of those who voted in the primaries supported him, and his ideas and the issues he gave voice to are not going away.

(53,137 posts)the ones where denying women's rights is okay? Where the resulting increased poverty for women and children that comes from lack of access to reproductive care isn't important enough to uphold as a standard of "porgressivism"? The one where economic justice is defined in terms of increased wealth for white men to the exclusion of you, me, and other women? You do realize that actually leads to greater inequality, not equality. Perhaps you don't care. Perhaps like the guys on this site Bernie just matters more to you.

(787 posts)You know his record and his ideas are 180 degrees from what you just put forth as his ideas.
In no world and no quote has he said that his idea is that it is ok to deny women's rights. Where have you ever seen a quote where he believes that economic justice is only defined in terms of white men.
The answer is nowhere. You are just making this up and this gets tiring reading this site.

(787 posts)Here is the quote and idea attributed to Bernie "economic justice is defined in terms of increased wealth for white men to the exclusion of you, me, and other women". This statement is a pure made up bash and is what I responded to. This is 180 degrees from Bernie's idea of economic justice. You know it because apparently you know Bernie's voting record.
So please find me anywhere anyplace that Bernie Sanders has come even close to that idea as a definition of economic justice. It is this bashing on made up attacks that is getting tiresome from people who want the Democratic Party to win elections and make actual progress in the future on issues that help people or in our current situation win elections to unwind the damage done by the Trump administration and Republicans.
Your particular response is actually almost hopeful because it does not respond with another made up quote or fake angst but has a ground in the reality is that Bernie has a good voting record. Make the further step and look at the post I responded to and see if you can find any ideas of Bernies that come close to the ideas attributed to him.

(6,050 posts)I personally find Sanders political analyses to be retro and narrow.
I would hope that you accept that, and not confuse policy differences with a desire to "take a swipe" ar Senator Sanders or with "trashing" him.

(10,303 posts)Absolutely horrendous! He would never have cheered on the dismantling of Obama care, never have cast the tie breaking vote for our wonderful educamation secretary DeVos, and he wouldn't have spoke at a March for Life rally... Not in the way that our VP Mike Pence is doing. Everything to make America great again, eh?

(63,295 posts)In recent cycles, Democrats have too often fragmented over ideological purity. Witness the shouting matches going on even now as to whether Sanders or Clinton was the better candidate for 2016. At some level we sacrifice the good for the sake of the perfect, leaving us badly weakened against the Republican campaign machine.
And Republican voters, in stark contrast, will readily rally behind their candidate no matter how flawed, and they will elevate that candidate to demigodhood once in office, all in the pursuit of raw power.
Sure, Trump's approval ratings are in the toilet, but if we held the Nov 2016 election today, I'm pretty sure that most of Trump's remorseful voters would still vote for him.
