Says She's Not A 'True Hero"
WALSH: Understand something about John McCain. His political advisers, day after day, had to take him and almost throw him against a wall and hit him against the head and say, Senator, you have to let people know you served! You have to talk about what you did! He didnt want to do it, wouldnt do it. Day after day they had to convince him. Finally, he talked a little bit about it, but it was very uncomfortable for him. Thats whats so noble about our heroes. Now Im running against a woman who, my God, thats all she talks about. Our true heroes, its the last thing in the world they talk about. Thats why were so indebted and in awe of what theyve done.

(15,368 posts)As long as the myth is allowed to perpetuate that simply having an "R" after your name means you "support the troops" and are "strong on defense"...he has nothing to lose.
That myth allowed the Repukes to turn the guy with multiple Purple Hearts and Bronze and Silver Stars earned in combat into a "traitor"...and the guy who spent his combat eligible years defending the Flora-Bama Bar into a "hero".
Right now, I guarantee you that there are a bunch of old guys sitting around the TV at the local VFW Post, doing their very best to explain how "Wilson is the real military hero"...I've seen similar with my own eyes.
How the hell else can you explain polls of military veterans that have Romney with a "double-digit" lead among veterans?

(9,748 posts)There is one and only two** reasons I do not care for Injured Iraqi War Veteran Tammy Duckworth. The only thing Injured Iraqi War Veteran seems to campaign on are the injuries that Injured Iraqi War Veteran got in Iraq.
I am looking forward to the Tea Bagging poster boy going down. But I really do get sick of that shit. Also I would like to know, does Injured Iraqi War Veteran actually stand with Democrats on anything? I hope she doesn't turn out to be another Cindy Sheehan.
** Two would be my #1 reason actually. After big money helped Centrist Tammy Duckworth narrowly beat out the local Democrat whom all the polls showed trouncing the Republican, Centrist went on to lose that race. The local would probably have won that election and campaigned as a Liberal, Progressive. Centrist took the centrist route and lost. Actually, I might like this about Centrist as she has provided excellent proof that this centrist bullshit doesn't work.

(23,272 posts)there was no way a Dem was going to win there, especially a progressive like Christine Cegelis. Henry Hyde personally hand selected his replacement in Peter Roskam and threw his substantial clout behind him.
Every single US Rethug presidential candidate in the world goes to Dupage County to fund raise and give speeches. All of them - its that red. Besides that Pete Roskam had every Rethug heavyweight coming to specifically campaign for him when he ran for that seat including Cheney, Laura Bush, and Karl Rove.
Tammy Duckworth came as close to winning that seat as any Dem will ever come - she was within 3 pts. I know because I lived in Wheaton for 25 years. I went to high school with Pete Roskam, I even have naked baby pics of Pete and I in the baby pool together as toddlers. Furthermore, I worked on Tammy's campaign in order to say I did everything I could to try to turn that seat blue.
It beggers belief why you would distort her very, very admirable run against Roskam. She did a damn fine job on her first campaign ever trying to take Hyde's seat.

You are right in that big money helped "centrist" Duckwork narrowly beat out the local Democrat. What is a "centrist?" I have no clear idea except for the fact that a "centrist" does not want to be an FDR-type Democrat. (E.g., "I will always remember that my oath of office will be to serve the people of the United States and not any political party of interest group."
On her web site, she says that she favors governmental austerity, payroll tax credits, revising the Tax Code, accountability in the classroom, "investing in safe and responsible domestic oil while moving towards a clean energy future," opposing terrorism around the world, etc.

(3,660 posts)It was 45 minutes of him talking about his military service and how that made him the perfect Commander in Chief. He also spoke at length on the campaign trail about his service. His first debate against President Obama had at least 20 questions about how his military experience would aid him in guiding America through the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
McCain used his service card more than any other person I can ever remember that ran for higher office.
Of course I could see why this irritated Walsh so much. Since most GOPers do everything they can to avoid service, they don't like to be around those who actually have served.
