and maybe the Palmer Report on par with like a political version of the Enquirer.
I look at the Palmer Report as my crusty old uncle in the corner who will say whatever the eff he wants, and is right some of the time. I like their bluntness, but we have to commit to walk in the truth.

(7,440 posts)It's mainstream "DU" thought to discount Mensch, Palmer, Schindler, Taylor, Nance, etc.
The fact is that Mensch was way ahead of the news in her reporting on bribery and espionage allegations being investigated by the FBI and others. For the most part, these writers claim to get leaks from the IC, and they make logical sense. Yes, corroboration is essential, and corroboration does happen, as with the recent news release that the FBI corroborated the Steele dossier for credibility BEFORE they sought a FISA warrant for surveillance. Remember that there was a time, not too long ago, when the Steele dossier was considered by many in this forum to be a flight of fantasy.

(4,407 posts)Before I joined this site earlier this year, I had no idea that Democrats talk about "main stream media" the same way as the Republicans do. Personally, I hate that term because it is usually used in a derogatory way against any news outlet who does not report every single story from the same perspective the person using that term sees it.
I honestly think the "echo chambers" are fine as long as we read further and listen to other views/interpretations/sources, etc. I am not going only listen to people who share my perspective on things...I think that is dangerous.
Reporting from a limited perspective became "normal" with the advent of Fox News. Biased reporting has, in a very large part, created our current mess because the Republicans are better at making stuff up than us. The response isn't to get better at making shit up, it's getting better at showing, and dealing with the unbiased truths.
My two cents.

(51,129 posts)The world is very complex and nuanced. The media landscape is complicated. Lumpers simplify the media world at their own peril. But, the greatest peril is paying too much attention to the media instead of thinking for yourself. Propaganda is far more effective than most people realize, even here.

On the lighter side you might want to check out the parody account on twitter, hilarious & spot on.

Would you have called a man delusional for claiming Putin killed Breitbart and they had temporary superpowers to detect Russian plots? "

Yes , she really did claim to have superpowers.

(1,387 posts)By the way , your description of Palmer Report as the 'crusty old uncle ..." resonated with me the minute I read it.What a great characterization . After all ,who doesn't have a crusty old uncle ?
Reading Palmer Report is one of my guilty pleasures - though I sometimes feel all grimey afterwards .

(51,129 posts)Mensch is an ardent #NeverTrump blogger and a conservative, and she has intelligence sources from her days as a Member of Parliament.
Mensch might be the first to say "trust but verify" but I think she is likelier to say "don't trust and always verify twice" instead. She is a seasoned journalist who knows how to confirm sources at least from two independent others. You don't have to be a liberal to do journalism or oppose trump.
Palmer is a hyperbolic donate button regurgitating what others find and produces very little new stuff. But, he is on the beat in a big way and well worth paying attention to because he is very on top of breaking resistance and corruption news. You do Mensch a disfavor conflating the two of them. It is a false equivalency.
