General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIt's as simple as this. The election was not legitimate. Trump was placed into the presidency.
Now, the key - who will have the courage to remedy this?
If it stands...it is permanent blot on our country, as well as an entry into untold disaster (which is already unfolding on a daily basis).
That is all.

(4,619 posts)election fraud/rigging (electronic and otherwise), and now a conservative majority on the Supreme Court. If worse comes to worse they'll endorse Trump's starting a war in N. Korea (or elsewhere) and then all bets are off.

(67,846 posts)Declaring the president illegitimate.
Declaring election tainted and therefor null and void.
Call for an election do-over.
Amazingly, that's the easy part.
Once those declarations are made, then what?
Who sits as president?
Who is our leader if we're attacked?
Who gets to decide all this? The Congress? Do we follow the Constitution and install Ryan until we get the rest in place? The Supremes? The Senate?

(82,849 posts)There is no provision in the U.S. Code or the Constitution to nullify an election. That's not to say that Congress can't fashion legislation to address the possibility of a stolen election in the future, but the 2016 election is in the books. This isn't like the NCAA nullifying a school's victories or stripping a team of a championship years down the line for irregularities. It didn't occur to anyone that a major political party would sell out the country to a foreign country. As long as that party remains in power, there will be no remedy. We the people have to decide if we want to turn that party out of power or if we're comfortable with the new status quo.

I think we're better sticking to the Constitution.

(49,075 posts)We will need lots of heavy duty Constitutional lawyering because this is uncharted territory with few if any real contingencies for this.
When it is proven that the election was stolen, the rightful President is the Majority winner Hillary Clinton.
If tRump resigns before the case is proven, Pence takes over, but his ticket and the Republican Electoral College win would by rights be erased and Hillary Clinton inaugurated when the case is proven.

(12,882 posts)The outrage I'm alluding to is that that I'd expect from our elected reps. Trumps in OBVIOUS violation of this, that and the other and we get NOTHING from our side but speculation as to how Bernie's trying to "screw us" again.

Gore won.
Kerry was swiftboated, egregious lies.
Hillary would hsve won, but for the cheating, Comey, Russians, etc., although her camp fucked up a lot, she would habe still won.
Lots of permanent blots. Snowballing blots. Avalanches of blots.

(36,567 posts)The dems know the repubs lie, cheat & steal. I read Obama knew about the Russian collusion but didn't go public because he'd be accused of partisan politics. Are you fucking kidding me? So now we have Trump, who is working fast to dismantle everything Obama put in place. The dems pat themselves on the back with platitudes like "When they go low we go high," & now the GOP has their boot on our collective neck. Unless the entire upper leadership of the GOP is taken down, I don't see how the dems have any influence for decades, if ever.

(5,730 posts)Fucking up, but it may not be before we are in a war.
IMHO, Obama should have gone public w that, or let Comey. He also should have appointed Merritt Garland as a recess appt. We will never know for sure why he didn't. Maybe he didn't want a fight he might lose at he end of his legacy. Certainly, as he said, he didn't want to appear ro influence the outcome of an election. Ironically, by doing nothing, he may have influenced it. My guess is, he thought Hillary would win, so he didn't think it was necessary.
No one discusses it. Unspeakable. I loved Obama too, and I was never so pround to be an American, but ,as they say, if we don't learn fom the mistakes of history, we are doomed to repeat them.

(14,167 posts)Next time we have a Democratic President and control Congress, one thing we must do is add a couple of SCOTUS seats to remedy the seat stolen for Gorsucks.
Next, we need to pass legislation that assigns a stiff penalty to any candidate and/or campaign operatives found cheating, tampering with election equipment, colluding with foreign entities, etc.
