Doctor: Alex Jones Diagnosed With Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Infowars founder Alex Jones was diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder in a psychiatric evaluation, the divorce case manager confirmed during his custody trial in Austin on Wednesday. Austin psychologist Alissa Sherry said that a different doctor compiled the report, part of what she said was the most time-consuming divorce case she has ever worked. People diagnosed with NPD typically show traits including a lack of empathy, arrogance, and a propensity for grandiose fantasies. They are also frequently described as manipulative and demanding. Minutes earlier, an attorney for ex-wife Kelly Jones discussed at length an incident in which Alex Jones reportedly yelled at his daughter for wearing a boot for her broken toe, which Sherry said could “perhaps” be a symptom of NPD. Day 3 of the custody trial has so far focused on the testimony of Sherry, interspersed with brief moments of tension between Alex Jones and ex-wife Kelly Jones’ legal team, who have complained over the past two days that Jones is shaking his head and smirking at them repeatedly.

1) they will never ever think they are the one with a problem

2) they can never ever be cured.

We need more research into mental illness and on brain functions. Find out which chemical imbalances, electrical wave lengths aren't functioning correctly and/or genetics that play a role. And include environmental factors that may trigger their episodes.

So those that do recognize they have a problem and want help, can get it, and if the science advances enough, even get cured.

But as for someone like Jones...yeah, he's they type who will never admit there is a problem.

I had years of therapy to unfuck my bizarre world view that they bestowed upon me.

and I have read several books, gone to lectures and have had at least 2 experts tell me so.

Narcissism is incurable.

So I know a little of what a I speak.

It's not like a "spectrum" disorder.

on edit: also narcissists are fantastic at claiming they are "cured", but are doing nothing to more bullshitting their way out of getting more "useless treatment" (to them). And frankly, they are right, it is useless to a narcissist.

Incurable. And if they get therapy, unwittingly to the doctor, it ends up being lessons on how to get by in life by manipulating others.

As several other posters have pointed out, the general consensus is that NPD is not "curable," nor does it respond to medications. In the case of true Malignant Narcissists there is (and always has been at least from very early childhood) a black hole where the basic and crucial emotion of empathy should be -- same as sociopaths. That hole can't be filled, and the MN and sociopath have never developed foundational human relationships because of it. Unlike a disorder like say autism, which can make it difficult for a person to READ and understand the emotions of others, the MN and sociopath are capable of READING the emotions -- they simply do not care what others feel (they only care about the emotions of others to the limited extent that they want to use the person who is their current target and also because they like admiration as part of their narcissistic supply. If they can't use you they will dump you). That distinction is massive.

I have also read that even IF a person with NPD seeks out therapy, it is potentially dangerous, as with sociopaths, because they use it as a way to learn how to "mirror" feelings that they are fundamentally incapable of experiencing like empathy. They will also use therapy as a way to work out elaborate rationalization for their behaviors and to "show" others what suffering victims they are -- "you've driven me into therapy!" (of course every person with NPD thinks he/she is being unfairly treated by the world, which should adore them and sanction their behavior without question).

Like sociopathy, a person with NPD lacks one of the most basic and critical human emotions -- especially empathy. This leads to an extraordinarily warped and cruel personality. They are incapable of true self-reflection, and the person with this disorder will not EVER see their behavior as "bad" or genuinely care about the pain they cause others. Someone mentioned Borderline Personality Disorder -- this is very different from NPD and sociopathy (which share many similarities). BPDs do experience empathy, and they are capable of self-reflection -- they also respond to medications and therapy as it gives them space to reflect and think through rather than lashing out.

At one time it was thought Borderline Personality Disorder was incurable and untreatable. So much so, health insurance companies would list it as an exclusion and wouldn't cover it.

Now, they know it can be treated (albeit..with some difficulty) and know that the area in the brain that regulates emotion, doesn't work in their cases. A Family member has worked hard through this, knew something was wrong when after having a very crappy life, it was now good...and trying to sabotage it.

Side note; narcissists claiming they are cured is bull shit. No mental illness at this time is truly curable. If they say they are cured, chances are the Psychiatrist told them they aren't responding to treatment...but they spin it as "I'm cured".

to air a little family dirty laundry I come from a truly fucked up family..

My sister has borderline personality and with medication is, for all intents and purposes, "normal".

narcissism can't be treated with meds.
