And phone stalking them with it behind closed doors, and cornering them at work when no one else is around. That would be more equivalent to what he's done to women.

Screw the advertisers, too. They were OK with tacitly supporting a misogynist, racist, hate-talking scumbag bloviator all these years. His narrow-minded, anti-American message got propped up by big $$$ while he helped turn a significant sector of the population into haters.

So, it was OK to support O'Lielly all this time, and now that there's incontrovertible evidence that he's a douche, they get commended for bailing? I don't think so.

What does it matter in the long run? He's still rich, he's near retirement age so it barely affects his working years, and it doesn't undo the election, which to me is about the only outcome that would matter at this point.

<...>

The intense media coverage surrounding O’Reilly led to a stampede of advertisers away from O’Reilly’s program, leaving it almost without sponsorship over the past two weeks. Various organizations, including the National Organization for Women, called for O’Reilly’s firing, and intermittent protests began outside Fox News’ headquarters in New York. Morale among employees at the network reportedly was suffering, too.

The external and internal pressure left the Murdochs with a dilemma: Keep the networks’ most valuable asset and hope to ride out the storm around him, or cut him loose and end the drama.

In the end, even an endorsement from President Trump couldn’t save O’Reilly. In an interview with Times reporters on April 5, Trump called O’Reilly “a good person” and said he shouldn’t have settled the complaints made against him. “I don’t think Bill did anything wrong,” Trump said.

The Murdochs, however, had more than just O’Reilly’s TV career to consider.

In addition to the potential longterm financial damage to Fox News, the O’Reilly controversy was casting a shadow over 21st Century’s $14 billion bid to win the British government’s approval to buy Sky TV, the British satellite service.

Murdoch doesn't care about the harassment cases but he still wants to buy Sky. Gotta follow the money!

They care about morality as soon as it hits their pocketbook. They can tolerate two decades of lies, hatred and evil, but not two weeks of operating at a loss.

That's actually pretty impressive, under the circumstances. They are actually saying that that's the reason he's out. I would have expected more cover. You know, the usual... the allegations had become a "distraction," he was coming close to retiring anyway, etc.

Past retirement age and uber-rich, for certain. Plus he got away with his crap toward women for many years (and Fox, which mostly seems to have hired only "foxy," usually blond, women must have been paradise for him). Too bad, so sad.
