With their health care benefits set to be cut off within days, locked-out Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant workers rallied on the State House steps Thursday with some of the state’s most powerful Democrats and labor leaders.

Senate President Therese Murray, Treasurer Steve Grossman, Massachusetts Democratic Party Chairman John Walsh and others excoriated plant owner Entergy Corp while U.S. Sen. John Kerry, and U.S. Reps. Steve Lynch, William Keating, and Edward Markey sent letters of support for the workers.

The show of political force, however, does not factor into Entergy’s decisions, said Jack Alexander, Pilgrim’s manager of government affairs.

“I certainly respect their opinion and I fully understand their support for the workers and for their constituents,” said Alexander. “I feel however, that it’s very important for us to come up with a settlement that makes sense, that we can live with.”
