There will be charges that Neil Gorsuch does not belong on the Supreme Court, that he took the seat that belonged to Merrick Garland. No matter what they say, that will be the perception. And perception is reality.
There is the danger that the highest court in the land will be tainted by the politics of Mitch McConnell. Not only did he refuse to even talk with Merrick Garland, he is now ready to push through Gorsuch with the so-called "nuclear option".
Those that say it will only return the Court to the status quo overlook the fact that the status quo was radical and not acceptable to the majority of Americans. We should not accept a return to the Scalia Court.

No matter what happens to trump, once Gorsuch gets in, he'll be there a looong time.

(1,629 posts)The Senate is a grotesquely antidemocratic body where 18% of the US population gets 52% of the seats. NO one should be approved unless they are approved by Senators who at least represent a majority of the US population. For example Thomas failed to get this approval. There's something to be said about needing a supermajority in that it tends to weed out extremists.
