Really LONG read on Trump and his questionable Russian ties...buried in the article is this:

Finally, several other interesting Russian/FSU connections have a more residential flavor, but they are a source of very important leads about the Trump network.
Indeed, partly because it has no prying co-op board, Trump Tower in New York has received press attention for including among its many honest residents tax-dodgers, bribers, arms dealers, convicted cocaine traffickers, and corrupt former FIFA officials.
One typical example involves the alleged Russian mobster Anatoly Golubchik, who went to prison in 2014 for running an illegal gambling ring out of Trump Towernot only the headquarters of the Trump Organization but also the former headquarters of Bayrock Group LLC. This operation reportedly took up the entire 51st floor. Also reportedly involved in it was the alleged mobster Alimzhan Tokhtakhounov,66 who has the distinction of making the Forbes 2008 list of the Worlds Ten Most Wanted Criminals, and whose organization the FBI believes to be tied to Mogilevichs.
Even as this gambling ring was still operating in Trump Tower, Tokhtakhounov reportedly travelled to Moscow to attend Donald Trumps 2013 Miss Universe contest as a special VIP.

How did an alleged and notorious Russian mobster connected to an illegal international gambling ring run out of Trump Tower end up as a special guest at a Donald Trump event in Moscow in 2013? This may be one of the odder questions of the already-odd 2016 presidential campaign.
On April 16, 2013, federal agents burst into a swanky apartment at Trump Tower in New York City as part of a larger raid that rounded up 29 suspected members of two global gambling rings with operations allegedly overseen by a supposed Russian mob boss named Alimzhan Tokhtakhounov. The Russian was not nabbed by US law enforcement. Since being indicted in the United States a decade earlier for allegedly rigging an ice skating competition at the 2002 Olympics, he had been living in Russia, beyond the reach of Western authorities. And this new gambling indictment did not appear to inconvenience Tokhtakhounov. Seven months after the bust, he was a VIP attendee at Donald Trump's Miss Universe 2013 contest held in Moscow. In fact, Tokhtakhounov hit the red carpet within minutes of Trump. An alleged crime lord who was a fugitive from American justice was apparently a celebrity guest at Trump's event.

(111,470 posts)for money laundering for the Russian mob. Now he's doing the same thing offshore, letting other people run it but I'll bet he's up to his fat neck in all of it.
One thing that happens when organized crime gets their hooks into you is that you can't get out, not without losing a lot of what you think you own and risking your health and safety.
Yeah, he knows what's going on. Since he's ignorant of the standards government officials are held to, he doesn't think it's a really big deal, he's just a businessman.
Yeah, just like Al Capone.

(9,974 posts)I imagine two things:
The Russians have a long list of shit to blackmail him with and the intel community has a vault full of Trump/Trump family/Russia related audio. Trump knows this but is trying to say the surveillance started with President Obama.
