Why I Want [Redacted] to Finish a Full Term Through 2020

Here's why; it's simple.

There is NO, repeat NO established Constitutional or legal method for bypassing the line of succession established by the Constitution itself, and the Presidential Succession Act which was last amended in 1947. Read up on it, it's all very interesting. But the point is, there is a line of succession, it's written into law, and there is no way to bypass it.

So, if >>Redacted<< gets his ass impeached prior to January of 2021, here's what happens:

Pence becomes President. Pence scares me even more than >>Redacted<< because Pence KNOWS what he wants: The Rapture, and he KNOWS how to make it happen.

Okay, let's say we find Pence's hand up the Matryushka dolly too, and he's out. Here's what happens:

Paul Ryan becomes President. You want that? Srsly? Because I don't. OK, let's say he's out for some reason, probably involving orange jumpsuits. Then what happens?

Orrin Hatch becomes President. Are you cool with that? You don't know Orrin very well, do you? Alrighty, let's say he croaks before being sworn in. Could happen, he's a mean old cuss. Who's next?

Rex Tillerson becomes President. Fer realz. And may anything divine that happens to have a sense of mercy protect us. Let's say Rex decides he just wouldn't have enough time to spend with his family, and he passes. Who do we get?

Steve Mnuchin. No comment.

And then we'd get James "Mad Dog" Mattis. Or (in definitely descending order) JeffyBeau Sessions, or Ryan Zinke.

Now, if ANY of these individuals succeeded >>Redacted<< they would have the option of nominating a Veeper of their own, just as Ford nominated.... anyone remember? Anyone?

Nelson Rockefeller, that red-hot flaming radical leftist socialist liberal.

Well, by today's GOP standards, anyway.

Any odds on whether one of these pricks would nominate someone who's already on the Administrative staff? Ivanka? Bannon? Priebus?

Or even one of the nutjobs from the HFC?

Or someone else Uncle Vladdy suggests?

So, I don't see ANY good paths, post->>Redacted<<-removal.

I want his bloated cheesy posterior glued to that chair behind the Resolute desk for FOUR WHOLE YEARS, suffering humiliations galore.

While Americans vote out GOP state legislatures, and turn as many Gooberships as possible over to Democrats.

While Senate Democrats form a solid bloc devoted to preventing as much damage as possible.

While the GOP eats itself in a bloody, messy, terrifying spectacle.

While America elects a Democratic House Majority in 2018, with the mandate of fixing campaign financing, fixing electoral gerrymandering, and fixing voter suppression.

While the Democratic Party listens to voters and comes up with a strategy to unify behind a strong candidate for the 2020 election.

So, no.

I'm not in favor of impeachment and removal.

And that's why.

informatively,
Bright

1. Something to be said for this argument

Trump could do us all a favor by fracturing and impugning and crippling the GOP given a full term.

Of course he might take down the economy or use a nuclear weapon too.

I just worry about what he can accomplish. However, it is looking like it is more of a feeding frenzy in the repub tank than anything else.

3. The power shifts if we manage to take house and senate in the midterms

Then House installs any dem we want as speaker.

At that point we impeach and remove pres and vp. Extraordinary corruption calls for extraordinary yet wholly constitutional measures.

This is the only scenario that doesn't reward repubs for their corruption.

If Milquetoast replaces <<Redacted>> he gets to choose his own VP. (To be approved by the Senate) Now, he's sure to pick a poison pill to ensure his own -ahem- unimpeachable qualities. (Personally, I envision Cruz.) and also his own cabinet. (Which, is sure to more resemble the Spanish Inquisition than <<Redacted>>'s Russian Mafia.)

So, it's a wild card after that point and bigly more unpalatable than what you suggest. Sad.

8. The line of succession is as scary as BLOTUS so your fears are well founded.

I don't see how he avoids impeachment, though, if there is a Russian connection. There are 2 scenarios, of course. One is the public generally decides the GOP is corrupt and we return to sanity or, #2, a significant chunk of the population decides it was all "fake" news and he was unjustly removed. If the second happens, we could be stuck with Republicans in major offices until the end of time. (In that scenario, I will seriously think about leaving the country for good.)

9. Unfortunately, unless the Democratic Party seriously works on a unified strategy...

...I have to say I think #2 is the likelier scenario.

Which is pure #2.

But there ya go.

It's possible the GOP gets it together to try and impeach him, but at this point I'm not sure they could muster the votes.

doubtfully,

10. I doubt Pence is *that* crazy.

He's crazy but not that type of crazy. Perhaps the better descriptor to him would be odd or creepy.

I doubt he'd try to kick off the rapture. More likely, he'd try to push forward a bunch of bullshit "religious freedom" bills meant to cover the likes of Kim Davis and such people. Hopefully, a successful 2018 campaign that ties him to Trump's mess would limit his ability to get any of that done.

But in terms of foreign policy, he's nowhere near as volatile as Trump. I doubt he'd be one to engage Kim Jong Un in a Twitter war. And following the fallout over Trump and Russia, he'd probably shy away from continuing the notion of America being Putin's lapdog.

He'd be a horrible president, no doubt, but he's nowhere near the clear and present danger to the future of the US that Donald Trump is. If we kick Trump out of office, Pence will be saddled with Trump's urine stenched legacy and that's something we can play to maximum advantage in 2018 and 2020. I don't look forward to having to endure President Pence but I'd take it over the alternative of giving a Madman at least four years at the helm.

Trump is in fact the worst case scenario and he needs to go immediately, for the good of the country.
