Scientists: 2009 swine flu was 15 times deadlier than originally reported

(Reuters) - The swine flu pandemic of 2009 killed an estimated 284,500 people, some 15 times the number confirmed by laboratory tests at the time, according to a new study by an international group of scientists.

The study, published on Tuesday in the London-based journal Lancet Infectious Diseases, said the toll might have been even higher - as many as 579,000 people.

The original count, compiled by the World Health Organization, put the number at 18,500.

It goes on to note that most of the deaths were in Africa and Asia, which is likely a big part of why the original estimate was low. But hey, flu vaccines are just a huge scam, right?

it would have been that much higher...

Oh wait head on fire, they were exaggerating

And there is more...

It did cost the GNP of a country to the south of us... as in major economic cost.

Did not have to be hospitalized thankfully, but it was the sickest I had ever been in my adult life.

It was a full week of misery and high (for an adult) temps. And even after the worst of it had cleared up, I had a cough that lingered for well over a month after.

I have not put off or missed a flu shot ever since.

There are people, like my hubby, who can't...he got sick from it twice...I think and doc thinks, he's allergic. He is in the low number of people who should not.
