----------------------
Today is one of the most important fundraising deadlines of this campaign so far.
We might not outraise Mitt Romney.
But I am determined to keep the margin close enough that we can win this election the right way.
To do that I need your help today.
Please donate $5 or more before tonight's deadline:

The stakes in this election are real. Thanks for all your support so far.
Good week.

(20,600 posts)has extra money laying around to donate willy nilly to whatever strikes our fancy. Its a very bad economy for some of us, its an unpleasant but true reality.

(131,370 posts)I was in same boat some time ago.
"willy nilly?" "whatever strikes our fancy?" THAT I don't get.

(20,600 posts)it sounds like we all are supposed to have extra money growing on trees or stuffed in couches and its no big deal to donate money to the president.

(112 posts)But I have a question. What if you are unemployed, does it matter? In the section that asks for your employer or occupation, I just put unemployed. But from reading the fine print, its seems like they want you to enter an employer and not contribute if someone gives you money for the purpose of donating it. I don't know, the fine print just kind of freaked me out or maybe I'm over-reacting.
elleng
(131,370 posts)They want to be sure you're not giving for someone who has already reached their personal maximum. I'm sure they'll be pleased to receive from you.
P.S., I'm retired, so don't have an employer either.

(112 posts)I've been cash strapped for most of this year, but now that its getting closer to Nov I have to give whatever I have. I don't want to have to kick myself or woulda coulda shoulda, if I wake up on Nov 7th and Mittens is president, perish the thought. So I'm going to donate what I have, no matter how small the donation is.

Crap - sorry!
Well, happy July, everybody! Time to celebrate the Fourth! And remember, freedom ISN'T free. It also costs tax money.

(288 posts)All the money I have saved up is going towards college textbooks next month.

(25,816 posts)There are some good sites for used college text books. You can save some $. Google it. I know what a burden text books can be. I have two in college now. All the best!
AJTheMan
(288 posts)college that I could go to. They help you find your textbooks and you pay less there. And then there's always book rentals. You rent the textbook instead of buying. I'm still figuring out what the best option is for me, financially speaking.

(25,816 posts)It seems that advertisements have an effect, (although they've never had an effect on me. You either have beliefs or you don't.)
I have the feeling that, in the face of the huge campaign chest that Rmoney is raising, Obama is going to need help, even from the poorest of us. I am pretty well broke, but next week I'll be able to give a bit. I will do it. I think we need it.
Shankapotomus
(4,840 posts)to seriously push for campaign finance reform this it. Republicans are outspending us and for the first time outspending a sitting president. The Dems can't let this happen in the next election so this might force campaign finance reform as an issue depending who wins the executive and legislative branches. If Republicans and Romney win you sure as hell won't see campaign finance reform. If Obama and the Dems win at least there's a chance.
