Trey Gowdy Concedes: The Military Could Not Have Gotten To Benghazi In Time To Save Lives

A central element of conservative conspiracy theories spread in the aftermath of the September 11, 2012 attack on our diplomatic facility and CIA annex in Benghazi, Libya, has been the myth that the military could have responded to the attack more quickly and therefore saved lives.

In the most outlandish version of this story, President Obama or Hillary Clinton ordered the military to “stand down” rather than come to the aid of the Americans who were under attack.

Earlier this week, a letter from two House Democrats to Rep. Trey Gowdy, the South Carolina Republican who is chairing the select committee investigating the Benghazi attack, revealed that the GOP’s own chief investigator acknowledged during the investigation that nothing “could have been done differently to affect the outcome in Benghazi.”

The Republican party either lied to a grieving mother and made her believe that he son would be alive if it were not for Hillary

Or that woman made the whole thing up to support the Republican party

One of the two is guilty of something terribly appalling and though it may not be today's news it is news that people should know, if even to bring up in the future when they try and pull something like this again

It may not have been official, but it was acknowledged previously. They still kept beating the same dead horse at tax payers expense. And, it still resonated with their extreme base.

All we can do is continue to provide facts against their fictions.

I think the fact that Gowdy openly said it after he tried so hard to prosecute her is really damning and should be, at least at the time of his next election, be loudly and repeatedly yelled to his constituents

Not verbiage by Gowdy himself, but as a conclusion of previous investigations. I don't disagree that Gowdy saying it himself is damning, it is. It's just that anyone with half a brain already knew this was the conclusion.

Honestly, I'm probably still a little bit bitter here. I can't grasp how people fell for the lie initially, really. You're right though, maybe more will now question what they've accepted as reality. Which makes this a good thing.

being investigated they seem to look guilty.

That is why it pisses me off when people say that had to chose from the lesser of 2 evils. The Republican party did its damnedest to make Hillary look "evil" when she wasn't.

They knew it was fake, and just didn't give a damn, so long as it furthered their cause. Be it whatever bias/beliefs they can't see beyond, it was more important to them, and their party, than a stable nation.

Don't even get me started on that lesser of two evils, bullshit. That's a fabricated premise by the RW to tear down Democrats. Don't ever believe otherwise. It's total crap! All that ever does is enable Republicans to gain power. Ever in history. That should make the logical point to any honest thinking person right there.

It's unlikely they could have withstood the 100 to 150 terrorists that attacked with military grade weapons.

As Hillary Clinton said "What does it matter?"
