3. The Sad Tale Of 2012...

This is a direct affect of Citizens United. Part of this is NRA flexing its muscle but its also being used to shakedown its members. The money's flying "fast and furious" around the beltway this year and the NRA has pledged to play with the big boys. It's not keeping up with the unions but with the Kochs and Roves. This "theory" that somehow there was some "plan" to use this scandal to push for an assault rifle ban or other gun control is classic NRA fear mongering. This meme has been flying around hate radio and revved up the wing and gun nuts to write checks so the NRA can be a player in this year's election. The Democrats who will vote for contempt do so in hopes of avoiding the NRA using their big bankroll against them...but I suspect it will only help a few.

The other sad story is how union influence has diminished...or at least the perception it has. Wisconsin still stings. If there was the need for an energized and rejuvenated union movement, it's now.

... if our now weakened labor unions were still in a strong enough position to financially compete with the same kind of money that corporations and billionaire businessmen are now capable of throwing around.

CU was a blatant political move by the judiciary that will rank with Dread Scott as one of the worst ever. The power of labor long scared the rushpublicans and campaign finance was initially designed to keep union spending in check. 30 years of union busting, off shoring and lack of solidarity among unions has put us in the situation we face today. I just don't know if the unions see it...considering how many voted to retain Wanker in Wisconsin. If not completely neutralized, unions are definitely back on their heels...wish I could say different.

The labor unions rank and file are at least middle class americans, the NRA is full of rich people who own guns in addition to the middle class that join to get that emblem on their pick up truck.

We the people should have the support of your elected leaders, not any one group or any lobby.

End of child labor
Paid overtime
Workers compensation for people injured on the job
Unemployment insurance
Improve workplace safety and reduce on the job fatalities
Pushed for Civil Right Acts and Title VII which outlaws job discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin
Occupational Safety and Health Act
Family Medical Leave Act
Push for livable minimum wage

9. Your analogy only works for those who are not members of both groups. The Reagan Democrats vote GOP.

So that is where our traditional divisions are not longer relevant. Despite the idea that NRA members anti-union, some union members reject other beliefs that we feel unions always support.

I know union members who have been voting GOP for years, including federal workers doing military jobs and postal workers. They don't connect the demise of their jobs with the GOP, but think the Democratic Party is the party of blacks, welfare recipients and immigrants. So they will not vote for them.

I prefer unions as a whole deciding how politicians vote, as most of their goals are progressive.
