due to shrub being too damn inept.

arguably bill clinton was similar.

hell, same goes for carter, because, you know, nixon.

truth is, the southern strategy, which had the effect of allying christo-bigots with big business, sowed the seeds and we did precious little to stop it growing from there.

the only thing I find amusing about any of this is the thought that the fiscal conservatives are shaking in their boots at the thought of Roe v. Wade really being repealed and all those folks returning to voting for their economic interests again...

Sadly, We the People allowed them to issue all of these orders to ban this ban that and the level of racism has gone straight the the roof since this time.

The Patriot Act was the final nail in its coffin and now this sh*t!

I don't know why. I can't imagine anything significant that happened that year. But our default setting has been Republican ever since.

Yes, we got Jimmy Carter in 1976. But only because Nixon humiliated his party and the country on a massive scale.

But after that, we went Republican again. For 12 years.

Then, we got Bill Clinton. But it's very possible that the only reason we got him was because some billionaire (Ross Perot) got pissed off at President Bush over some personal grudge, and spent millions of his own dollars in order to play the spoiler. That's debatable, some say Clinton might have won without the Perot factor. I don't know.

But we went Republican again after that. And we only got Obama because of epic mismanagement by the Bush Administration, culminating in two failing wars, a drowned American city, and the worst financial collapse since the Great Depression.

It's no surprise that the country went Republican again. It's our default setting.
