I can only watch Lawrence and Joy Ann....more and more turning Rachel off....she is so into her clever LONG openings...and her giggles and she has lately been referring alot to her girlfriend....for no reason....I know Joy and Lawrence truly CARE about what they are reporting to us ...I feel like Rachel is just enjoying her job.....how cool is it "these interesting times" crappola....and the way she is sucking up to Andy Lack with her best friend Greta...straddling that fence....she is losing me bigtime. She used to be so good...

(2,108 posts)Particularly last night's show.
If she bothers you, real simple: don't watch
(Sometimes I think people complain just to have something to complain about)

(3,975 posts)and continue to watch...so I get what you are saying...I just want her to be as good as she used to be, so I still tune in every nite. As a Domestic Abuse Survivor and disabled 65 year old, one thing I never do is complain just to complain. I am happy to be alive. In these times, which ARE NOT INTERESTING....I just want 100% from her every nite. They are all we have. Sorry if I was a pill....

(2,108 posts)It just seems like everybody is beating up on everybody around here lately.
That and I think she does a fine job. But that's me.

(40,416 posts)It cannot do any good.
How many of our allies are we going to throw under the bus? Especially just because one does not historic narratives in ones reportage. I bet some also think Frontline is intolerable. And 60 Minutes!

(7,581 posts)By half. Just get to the point, our democracy is absolutely in danger. Stop giggling, Rachel.
Having said that, she was angry and shocked and on fire last night. That is the Rachel i admire.

(40,416 posts)Censorship? Are these complaints really trying to convince people not to watch Rachel Maddow?
Well, I hope that goal fails. We've thrown enough allies under the bus.
If you do not like Rachel, turn the damned channel. Nobody is forcing you to tune into her program. There are some of us who very much enjoy her geeky presentations.
I'll stand by my post.
Useless thread.

(12,319 posts)Rachel Maddow is a wonderful resource to find out the REAL news. Her research backs up the reporting.
If people don't want to watch, they can just use their remote. Why would anyone be offended if Rachel mentions her girlfriend or giggles?

(985 posts)She gives nuanced backstory to things that is usually very lacking in other places.

(2,108 posts)I know that, for some, the way she repeats herself is maddening but that's a teaching technique: Say it three times and most folks will commit that to memory.
Certainly I remember more of the details of her topics because of that repetition.
And, as you wrote, she dives deep into those openers.

(89,248 posts)With how media reports things today so it's good to have someone who can give more info.
She enjoys the job she does. I have no problem with that.

(309 posts)But I can totally understand how one would lose patience. Sometimes, the point/payoff wasn't worth the trip. Usually, it is, though. I am still side-eying her for vouching for Greta. That woman is horrible.

(21,946 posts)and stories. The back-story helps understand the present story so much better.
One reason I always enjoy reading Leon Uris and James Michener.
The give the back-story to the people in the novels.
Without that, the present isn't as understandable as it is with the history involved.
Watergate is a good example. Without the history, the personalities, the break-in, etc. the seriousness of what went down is to some degree lost.
I hope she continues to flesh out the story she's covering.

(6,591 posts)She repeats her points ad nauseum... saying the same thing over and over and over.
she can take a 3 minute idea and stretch it out 10 min.

(3,975 posts)Lawrence and Joy Ann staring into the camera with fire in their bellies.....their eyes shouting truth to power..no cutesy games. We got no time to waste these days....

(61,695 posts)That's too detached from the pain everyone else feels or is anticipating. Rising fascism isn't "interesting", it's deadly.

(3,975 posts)I feel she is not personally invested in this...like her life will go on the same..la...la...la...my fear and terror are real. I may be out on the street in a few months..no home..no auto...no nothing.....I think Cheeto watches Lawrence and I love when he smacks him in the kisser...it makes me feel in a way, more powerful....history facts will get me nowhere if I am homeless.

(61,695 posts)Building her case and reviewing history instead of projecting what will happen next if people like Ryan, Trump, etc get their way and how it affects people like you.
When I was single, I would go through mental machinations of how to live in my car, get by, etc. I would definitely try to go minimalist and convert to being as mobile as possible. Hang in there. There's lots of resisting going on. I don't think he'll get away with as much as he thinks he will.

(5,111 posts)Not going to hurt her one way or the other it's just kind of "interesting". She is very, very detached and in her head about all of this, .no emotional stake or passion there.

(28,394 posts)I guess I have a short attention span. Sometimes I turn it on late to see if she is done with them.
When she actually gets around to investigative journalism, she is one of the best on TV.
I am down to Lawrence and Joy now. But I didn't watch cable news at all for months after the "election".

(5,914 posts)I know I'm not going to be popular saying that, but she just is. I know she has her fans, though.
She's extremely smart, but she needs to get over herself every now and then and just get to the fucking point.

(4,608 posts)as if we were wayward 6th graders who need to have facts and stories broken down and simplified so we can grasp the full import that she obviously does. She's very bright and she knows it. But I find her communication method and presentation extremely condescending.

(348 posts)I like the interesting way to weave stories and the fact is, she's probably the single most liberal host on the air, right next to Joy Reid. I'm thankful we have her. We don't have many to turn to anymore.

And I watched her suck up to KellyAnn Con during the campaign. Not one of her finer moments.
I love Lawrence.

(8,964 posts)Sure, Rachel could get right to the point as most journalists might choose, although the stories are presented in a way that puts the issue being discussed into a meaningful and/or historical context, and also represent a good balance of news and entertainment. Sometimes I can predict what the punch line will be early-on, but typically it's regarding a breaking topic that most viewers would be unfamiliar with. I agree about Greta, she's flat out boring and on MSNBC has the same basic show that she ran at Faux.

(14,167 posts)She's an incredibly smart, but very insecure woman (in my humble opinion).
She wants to be liked so badly by the VIPs that she will often kiss the a$$es of some revolting people.
I think she is trying to walk the tightrope between keeping a job and reporting on significant news that the corporate masters would rather the masses not hear. Which is pretty much impossible to do, as we can see from Keith Olbermann's example.
