My Understanding Is That Trump Could Face An Unending Series Of Lawsuits.....

while he is the sitting president - especially if he doesn't divest his business interests.

My question is will we as taxpayers have to pay lawyers that defend him or will he have to use his own lawyers at his own expense?

During the Clinton administration that the president is not exempt and that the president has to pay for his own representation.

There was some scandal about speaking fees because the Clintons were broke after paying for all the legal fees...

because Trump probably already has a battery of sharp lawyers on his staff payroll.
Trump gets sued all the time. He must be used to it.

He'll probably just up the rent on the floor of trump tower for the SS and inflate the cost of using his own plane to make up the difference.

I mean...after he creates 17 new corporations to shuffle the money around to.

Legally, once Trump becomes President, he becomes two entities: Donald Trump, the person and Donald Trump, President. The entity that Donald Trump, the person is responsible for paying his own legal fees; The entity that Donald Trump, President would have the DOJ handling the case.

What he can actually be sued for remains a matter of some question. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinton_v._Jones set the precedent that a President CAN be sued for acts that took place prior to him taking office.

Whether a President can be sued for acts that took place WHILE in office remains to be seen. My sense is that while in office Donald Trump, the person can be sued, but the case would have to wait until he left office. That is something that would probably end up in front of SCOTUS.

and it distracts him from declaring war on whatever, I say bring it on.

And his tweets whining about it all will be comedy gold.
