He wants power, and they've been helping him build it for decades, betraying the fools who vote for him as needed to please his black-money backers, very much including Chinese business, as well as American billionaires.

This won't be his wife's first high government position. He put her in one before to protect their wealthy supporters's asses, and she has proven she can be counted on to grossly misuse her power in so doing. Not an ounce of probity between the two of them, but they have been a very good investment for the forces of darkness.
