Pssssssssssssssst! Security experts join Jill Stein's 'election changing' recount campaign

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/nov/29/security-experts-join-jill-steins-election-changing-recount-campaign
<snip>
More election security experts have joined Jill Stein’s campaign to review the presidential vote in battleground states won by Donald Trump even as she sues Wisconsin to secure a full recount by hand of all of its 3m ballots.

Half a dozen academics and other specialists on Monday submitted new testimony supporting a lawsuit from Stein against Wisconsin authorities, in which she asked a court to prevent county officials from carrying out their recounts by machine.

Stein argued that Wisconsin’s plan to allow automatic recounting “risks tainting the recount process” because the electronic scanning equipment involved may incorrectly tally the results and could have been attacked by foreign hackers.

“There is a substantial possibility that recounting the ballots by hand will produce a more correct result and change the outcome of the election,” Stein argued in the lawsuit in Dane County circuit court. A copy was obtained by the Guardian.

Stein, the Green party’s presidential election candidate, is working to secure full recounts in the states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, where Trump surprised pollsters by narrowly beating Clinton on his way to a national victory in the electoral college.

A petition from Stein requesting a recount was accepted by Wisconsin last Friday. Her efforts to obtain a recount in Pennsylvania met serious difficulties on Monday as it became clear she needed three voters in each of the state’s 9,163 voting precincts to request a recount on her behalf, and that deadlines to do so had passed in many precincts.

...points with me. I still hold Hillary, Bernie, the Obamas and their allies in much higher regard and believe she should have joined the effort against Trump.

If nothing else, this may help reform elections. And, I especially like that it puts a taint on Trump's electoral college win.

8. The totals in all three states would have to turn over to Clinton to "change the outcome".

Does she actually think that's possible? Do you?

I'd rather have four years of gridlock and a good impeachment than allow that asshole to be "normalized" by weak-minded people.

Which "she" are you talking about? Stein? Ask her, I suppose.

The "change the outcome" comment was talking about the "outcome" in ONE state contest.

I absolutely think that's possible.

13. There is no indication that such a miscount (intentional or otherwise) occurred.

Clinton doesn't think so.

Obama doesn't think so.

Sanders doesn't think so.

nb - Starting with an unfounded premise ("the election was hacked&quot and then looking for evidence to support that claim is poor research.

Let it play out.

I don't expect the results to be overturned, but if the count can be proven to be inaccurate in even one state, it delegitimizes that Orange Anus and leaves him hamstrung for his single term.

Start now. Raise funds now. Randomly audit 10% of precincts across the country.
In my state there is only 10 days after an election to request and pay for an audit.

WTF?

Does anyone know why or when this was introduced? It is hard enough that the DRE touchscreen systems cannot be recounted, and that (as I understand) accounts for 80% of the machines in PA.

I presume Stein's goal here is to make public the issues with the paperless systems, but now having to find 3 folks in each precinct - what a pain in the ass! I hope folks in PA will work to get that rule changed.

1. Optical Scan readers capture an anonymous image of the ballot as it is scanned.

2. Is it possible also with the DRE Push-Button/ Touchsceens to get copies of the 'ballot images'?

For instance = "The AVC Advantage . . . keeps these totals (with the ballot images) in its internal memory. . . . the machine can be instructed to print the internally stored data onto its printer, or copy it to a fresh cartridge." Montgomery & Northampton use the AVC Advantage.

3. Use a certified FOIA request to election officials to demand the images. {Follow up with a call if needs be.} Go in person and take along a couple of brand-new, still-wrapped flash drives and download the images. Count the votes, placing into a spreadsheet to track them efficiently.

If no attempt is made, we'll never know whether it was possible or not.

Finding the counties and the machines they use:

1. Click on PA to go to: https://www.verifiedvoting.org/verifier/#year/2016/state/42

2. To check Pennsylvania's machines for "Security Concerns" & "Important Notes" = right-hand column

and ask a PA judge to rule on her needing three voters in each of the state's 9,163 voting precincts to request a recount ...that might be illegal and/or unconstitutional.

K&R, thanks for posting.
