Causing millions of dollars in vandalism, we will treat you with kindness and deference. If you are Native American trying to protect your own land and water, you will be threatened with arrest, vicious dogs will be released to attack you, your movement will be restricted on your own land. I've heard almost none of this on the main stream media.

(22,669 posts)They don't want equal justice to be seen or heard. Theirs is a political agenda for power and wealth. Native American Indians won't provide any of those qualities to them, however rich RW Bundy supporters will. It just takes a corrupt branch of the media, like Fox Entertainment to broadcast propaganda and the nation's followers will follow.
Not only should the media be covering this issue and the treatment that Native Americans are still subjected to, but they should drag Hillary and Trump and President Obama onto the carpet to answer for they're complete lack of action or interest in the subject.
They'd be all over it if the candidates needed the Native American vote in order to win.

(2,531 posts)Whether or not you believe in what these people were doing, they were not committing violence. He got out of the car so police would stop shooting AT THE CAR FULL OF PEOPLE. He walked away from the car, held his arms up, and said go ahead and shoot me. And they did. They were supposedly on their way to a place to meet with authorities when they found out it was a setup and they were getting shot at and forced to stop driving. This is what I remember from the interview with the victim's wife, who was a passenger in the car.
What were they thinking? Was everyone in the car supposed to die? That's the only thing that makes sense to me.
And perhaps population control can be achieved by shooting every person labeled as a 'douchebag' anyway. That would include everyone who carries ('humps') guns.
Being armed is Un-American now. Calling yourself an American is also Un-American it would seem.
RIP, LaVoy Finicum.

(3,280 posts)I watched the video, one officer had to dive out of the way of that truck as it came up on the snowbank directly at him.
They weren't committing violence, they were inviting it. Repeatedly. They said over and over that if the feds came to take the government-owned taxpayer-funded land back from the occupiers, that they would happily have a violent standoff with federal agents. They'd rather die than be in prison, etc...
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/01/27/lavoy-finicum-ore-occupier-who-said-hed-rather-die-than-go-to-jail-did-just-that/
They had repeatedly told the media that they were armed and ready to retaliate if federal agents decided to intervene, so the federal agents were rightly worried about armed retaliation.

(2,512 posts)Way back when reporters reported news, and didn't try to twist it, fabricate it, or hide it when ordered to do so by their 'owners'. Truth to the public meant something.
These are sad and frustrating times.

(1,052 posts)Most of us consider all of the "New World" to be tribal land. Federal Indian Law sees it as what they define as "Indian Country." Popular misconception sees it contained strictly within reservation boundaries.
It (the pipeline and excavation) is not on the reservation, but passes close to it. However, most treaties (the supreme law of the land according to Article VI of the constitution) recognized, confirmed and preserved the peoples' rights to customary use of their ancestral treaty lands and waters. I don't know about the Fort Laramie treaty, but I'd guess the pipeline is violating those kinds of lands and waters.

(3,284 posts)Any RWer who complains about Colin Kaepernick's defiance of the Anthem,
should be asked how they feel about Cliven Bundy's governmental defiance in
(Malheur National Forest) Nevada in 2014 (you know-----Heavily-armed, hi-jacking a gov't facility,
costing taxpayers million$, Bundy's greedy motive--Not paying fees, desiring the land for his own own personal profit, etc etc).
I predict, at least 50% of the Kaepernick-haters LOVE Cliven Bundy,
making them hypocrites of the most disgusting kind.

(16,184 posts)The mishandling of Waco and Ruby Ridge ultimately made the federal government ease its tactics against white supremacists and militias, and the fallout from Oklahoma City made the militia movement toxic and eventually caused it die out.

(23,208 posts)During the past fifteen years, I monitored the SPLC's website, as well as others, tracking these organizations, and witnessed their growth. Two decades after OKC, they have new leadership, and exist in different groups, and some of the groups of the time are gone, but the militia movement has never gone away. Some of the old groups may have experienced a decline but they are still in existence.

(1,368 posts)To witness over 180 tribes standing in unity, was to say the least, remarkable! Those "white, gun humping, government hating, American seizing and occupying government land" idiots, have no clue how to be in unity. These people are prepared for the long haul, they've been attacked by dogs, pepper sprayed, lied to and lied about, yet they still are strong with true righteousness and doing it all with out guns.
