Underlying reason why I can't stand Trump.

I finally put my finger on it.

As if his ignorant bigotry wasn't enuff, I just realized he's a product of the 80s.

JMHO but the 80s sucked. Plastic fantastic, Reagan, cheesy music and fashion. Just say no, New wave, no wave, cocaine and shitty cars, designer jeans...and Donald Trump.

Now I know some here look back at the 80s with fond memories and that was the era they identify with. For me it was the 70s and the 90s.

To me Donald Trump is the icon of the decade I despise....just hit me like a ton of bricks.

There were notable exceptions and some cool stuff below the radar, but as a whole, the entire decade was garish and obnoxious in terms of style.

But as a whole it was pretty bleak from what I remember. I was in my 20s and couldn't wait for things to change. It was like a bad QVC commercial that lasted 10 years. Lol.

He's got no use for the relatively high minimum wage that kept this country booming while recessions were shallow or the regulation of banks that caused the thieves to stick to the mob instead of the places they later did so much damage. No, the 50s he wants to come back were a decade where white males were on top (unless they were poor) and everybody else knew their subordinate place in a clear cut hierarchy of social value. Schools were segregated and teenagers dressed like they were born 40 years old. He loved that world, as did a lot of white males who weren't poor. Even some women loved the 50s, they didn't have to make any uncomfortable choices.

But yeah, his personal style hasn't changed since the 80s, a decade of surface glitz covering up the rot that was starting to happen.

There are many substantive reasons to dislike Trump. They have nothing to do with the 1980's.

I kept looking for something witty or clever in your post. I looked for sarcasm.

In my memory he is interlaced with the bs that was that decade. I don't know how old you are but it was a very strange time for some if us.

Look at it this way.

You ever smell cloves?

To me that smell is synonymous with the dentist office . It was used as a topical pain killer. Dentist office equals discomfort and pain to most folks. So the smell of cloves takes them back to the dentist chair. Trump takes me back to the dentist chair that was the 80s.

That's all.

No matter what decade. He's the typical blowhard, blustering, swaggering, ignorant, self centered, entitled Ugly American. In this country or in any other country. I always knew he was a Narcissist, but now I'm beginning to think he's a Malignant Narcissist. A man who would for real use torture and death to get what he wants. He just seems to always be chomping at the bit to hurt people.

And yesterday in Mexico he wasn't being diplomatic. To me he looked cowed and out of his element when facing the people of that country, and he made up for it in spades with his speech last night. Roaring his way through his 10 immigration points, probably hoping no one noticed his meekness in Mexico while going way overboard with the testosterone just to cover up his earlier choke.

To me, the 70s were a great time, but the 80s totally sucked. Don't forget AIDS and the crack epidemic.
