Taibbi: Curt Schilling Is the Next Donald Trump

November looks bad for the white-guy grievance movement, but new filterless dimwits wait in the wings

Curt Schilling, cauldron-bellied baseball star turned political activist, has apparently decided to run for Senate in Massachusetts. His goal will be ousting an icon of the liberal hegemony he proudly despises.

"I would like to be one of the people responsible for getting Elizabeth Warren out of politics," he said last week. "She's a nightmare."

<snip>

Don't bet against him winning a Senate seat in my home state of Massachusetts, either. His would be a victory for the cause of ignorance and tone-deafness perhaps even exceeding Trump's capture of the Republican nomination.

<snip>

Understanding that there's a distinction between being smart and being educated, Schilling got to be filthy rich without being either, thanks to that winning genetic lottery ticket hanging off his right shoulder.

He lived the good life in the majors for 19 years, and even after he blew all his money, he kept getting second and third and fourth chances. In a classic example of failing upward, Schilling may even ultimately get elected to the U.S. Senate precisely because of the "bad decisions" that got him fired from his ESPN gig.

and failed to pay back tens of millions in loans underwritten by the State of Rhode Island. That is assuming he wins the primary.

As a long time Phillies Phan, I still remember how good Schilling was in the '93 World Series, but that would never be enough to get me to vote for him. Hopefully Red Sox fans feel the same way. Schilling's brain doesn't seem to know when to stop his mouth from talking or his fingers from tweeting.

Is good, love reading his writing.

"Genetic lottery ticket hanging off his right shoulder"

Great line.

Not as good as the "Vampire Squid" line but still good.

All he has to do is wave his bloody sock and flash his World Series ring, and the Sox fans will fall all over themselves to vote for him, regardless of his politics.

Mid term election equals low Democratic voter turnout. 2018 will be like 2010 if Clnton wins, there will be a lot lot angry conservatives. Or it will be like 2002, if Trump wins. Either way, it won't be a good election for Democrats.

Also, the state did vote for Scott Brown in a special election and has a republican governor. Massachusetts isn't as liberal as the republicans and media make it out to be.

Sports heroes are gods to them and can do no wrong. It's one of the things I hate about this state. Grown men and women were actually crying over Tom Brady's suspension.
