(48,988 posts)Trump cited Romney's tax returns causing Mitt a little "legal trouble" as one reason, perhaps the reason he would not release his (aside from phony 'auditing' excuse).

(22,025 posts)It's been obvious to anyone following the news in NYC that Donald Trump has been in league with mobsters for decades. He's even boasted of it.
Why hasn't the media picked up on this, especially since so many of them are in NYC?
Oh, wait...

(4,112 posts)I've worked in Manhattan off and on (currently on) for almost 20 years, and it's been a well-acknowledged fact; you don't even have to follow the news very closely! And you're right about him boasting about it, too.

(3,660 posts)But, while I realize a wealthy multiple businessowner's taxes are different from mine with W2s and a small S corp, no part of a tax return with which I am familiar would identify the source of even legitimate loans. A good audit would find the problems, but we are not going to see a smoking gun on any IRS form I've seen. A lot of ginned up speculation here.

(4,461 posts)... Would ANYONE list mob payments on their tax return, or even anything that could be linked to mob money? Come on. He's a psycho, but I seriously doubt he's telling the IRS where he gets his dark money.

For illegal money transfers:
The Orange Sludge: Ripping people off and illegal money laundering
The court papers:
IN THE MATTER OF: Number 2015-02
Trump Taj Mahal Associates, LLC, d/b/a Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort
Atlantic City, New Jersey
<SNIP>
II. DETERMINATIONS
Trump Taj Mahal willfully violated the BSAs program, reporting, and recordkeeping requirements from 2010 through 2012. Importantly, many of these violations were previously cited by IRS SB/SE in previous examinations of Trump Taj Mahal since 2003. As described below, Trump Taj Mahal (a) failed to implement and maintain an effective anti-money laundering program; (b) failed to report suspicious activity related to several financial transactions at the casino; (c) failed
to properly file Currency Transaction Reports; and (d) failed to keep appropriate records as required by the BSA and its implementing regulations.
<SNIP>
III.
CIVIL MONEY PENALTY
FinCEN has determined that Trump Taj Mahal willfully violated the program, reporting, and
recordkeeping requirements of the Bank Secrecy Act and its implementing regulations, as described in the CONSENT, and that grounds exist to assess a civil money penalty for these violations. U.S.C. § 5321 and 31 C.F.R. § 1010.820.
FinCEN has determined that the penalty in this matter will be $10,000,000.

(1,242 posts)"Trump was first tied to the mafia in the 1980s, when a $7.8 million subcontract for Trump Plaza was awarded to S&A Concrete, according to Fortune. The company, as Cruz correctly says, was partially owned by Anthony "Fat Tony" Salerno, the boss of the Genovese crime family."
"Trumps alleged mob dealings were not confined to New York. According to reports from the Huffington Post and Philadelphia Inquirer, Trump made a deal in Atlantic City with Kenneth Shapiro, an associate of mob boss Nicky Scarfo, and mob-connected labor boss Daniel Sullivan."
"A few years later, Trumps organized crime connections extended overseas. In 1992, a Senate subcommittee named Danny Leung, who was then the vice president for foreign marketing at Trump Taj Mahal, as an associate of the Hong Kong-based organized crime group 14K Triad."
""Leung has also given complimentary tickets for hotel rooms and Asian shows to numerous members and associates of Asian organized crime," reads the report, which also identified three other triad-connected business associates or former employees of Trumps gambling empire.
According to gaming regulators, Leung "flew in 16 Italian organized crime figures from Canada who stole more than $1 million from the casino in a credit scam," reported the New York Daily News in 1995. "The incident was never reported because Trump never filed charges."

(1,242 posts)" Mob-linked business adviser
And theres Felix Sater, "a twice-convicted Russian émigré who served prison time and had documented mafia connections" and the subject of the ABC story Cruz referenced.
Sater pleaded guilty to a charge of money laundering in 1998 and was indicted again in 2000 for taking part in a $40 million stock scheme involving four Mafia families, according to the New York Times report.
From 2003 to 2007, Sater traveled the country promoting projects for Trump, and his company was a partner in the Trump SoHo hotel. Trump told the Times he "never knew that."
Three years later, Sater returned to the Trump Organization and had business cards that described him as Trumps "senior advisor," the AP reported. Trump told the AP that hes "not familiar" with Sater."

"Trump has repeatedly said he barely remembers Sater. In sworn testimony in 2013, Trump said he wouldnt recognize Sater if they were sitting in the same room. In an interview last year with the Associated Press, he said, Felix Sater, boy, I have to even think about it.
Sater, in previously unreported sworn testimony reviewed by The Washington Post, described a closer relationship.
Sater said he popped into Trumps office frequently over a six-year period to talk business. He recalled flying to Colorado with Trump and said that Trump once asked him to escort his children Donald Jr. and Ivanka around Moscow.

Of course he's got mob ties. Who the hell else is there?
My guess is that he won't release his returns because he's in hock up to the stratosphere with a lot of dodgy people holding the paper. If he doesn't die soon, he's going to die broke.
