Talking to my mom about Trump today, and she's convinced he won't make it to November. "Health problems, they'll say," she said. "Addiction," I replied because I think he's a speed freak. "He's addicted to himself," she said.
... which led to a probably deplorable riff on Alcoholics Anonymous:
Donald Trump Anonymous. "Hi, my name is Donald and I'm addicted to me."
"Hi Donald!"
The DTA 12 Steps:
We admitted we were powerless over being an asshole.
Came to believe that no greater Power exists, because we are that greater power.
Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Ourselves as we understood Us.
Refused to make a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of how it's gonna be great, believe me.
Were entirely ready to have all these defects of character stay right where they are.
Humbly asked Him to go fuck Himself.
Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and found them so we could fuck their shit up all over again.
Made direct contact with such people wherever possible, especially when to do so would injure them or others.
Fail to continue to take personal inventory and when we were wrong never admit it.
Refuse to seek through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him. That shit's for douchebag Protestants and silly Catholics.
Having had no spiritual awakening whatsoever as the result of these steps, we swear to carry this message to Donald Trump Addicts and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
(No offense to any brothers and sisters in AA intended)

[font size = 5]You know who I believe should humbly be instructed to go fuck themselves? Anyone who enables a Trump presidency.

(15,429 posts)BTW, you should vote for Hillary if you have a problem with Trump.
Maybe you should rewrite your blog post where you say you won't vote for her.

(19,339 posts)I mean, yay that you live in a safe blue state and can say such things? And tee-hee on your OP? But what's the good of writing such things about Trump and then shrugging, like, whaddya gonna do? That's the very essence of privilege, and you're soaking in it.

(135,425 posts)smh. Others have already linked to it here.
And now you're back (yet again) after that dramatic GBCW you wrote to, this time, in essence, make fun of addicts while using their coping mechanisms to ostensibly trash Trump?
If you didn't intend any offense, you should have found a better way to express yourself. No need to mock a vulnerable group of people (those who use the tools provided by AA) to make fun of someone we already KNOW is a jerk.
Is that your way of getting back in the good graces of us lousy Clinton supporters?
Thanks but no thanks.
This is a total fail. Thumbs down.

(22,048 posts)Mr. Pitt's truthout blog was just dumb. The electorate is faced with a binary choice and since the future is at stake, we have to make a choice. By criticizing both candidates, Mr. Pitt is opting out of the franchise. Since he doesn't support the Democratic candidate, I'm not even certain that I understand why he posted on DU.
Now, to your criticism about Mr. Pitt's approach in this thread, MADem. You are exactly correct to smack him for using the Twelve Steps as a crutch to attack Donald Trump. There are endless items that can be used to discredit Mr. Trump. Using the AA program is insulting to the many, many people who struggle with addiction. In addition, his vulgar post wasn't funny in the least.
Because of Mr. Pitt's dismissal of both candidates and for this lame and juvenile post, I agree: this is a total fail.
MADem
(135,425 posts)He relies on the AA program to get him back on track. I see him struggling with his issues; I just can't sit silent in the face of trivializing or mocking the mechanism he uses to try to keep his difficult life together. It just seemed if not cruel, certainly in very poor taste. I wondered if there are any others here who might look at that kind of joking and feel a bit marginalized or denigrated.
We don't really know what others around us are dealing with--everyone has a burden to bear.
I'd rather see us mock The Con-ald for his choices--his shitty 'policy' statements, rife with hatred and bigotry, his penchant for bloviating, his unfamiliarity with anything resembling accuracy or the truth; hell, even mock him for his fondness for orange Man Tan and cotton candy dyes for his hair...those are choices he, and he alone, makes.

(92,394 posts)why some feel the need to post on a forum whose TOS is to support the Democratic nominee, and yet don't subscribe to that view.
I am NOT referring to you, and in fact I give you credit for standing up for what I assume is someone you admire, but at the same token, no one should be surprised at the cold reception, at a site supporting the Democratic nominee toward someone whose past and current history does not share that view.
