Ryan Bundy Declares Himself An 'Idiot' Not Subject To US Courts

Malheur National Wildlife Refuge occupier Ryan Bundy filed a series of court motions late Thursday, declaring himself a sovereign citizen who isn’t subject to federal laws.

Bundy, who is representing himself in the conspiracy case against the refuge occupiers, declares himself an “idiot of the ‘Legal Society’” and not subject to federal law, according to the documents.

“I, ryan c, man, am an idiot of the ‘Legal Society’; and; am an idiot (layman, outsider) of the ‘Bar Association’; and; i am incompetent; and; am not required by any law to be competent,” Bundy wrote in a motion filed to U.S. District Court Judge Anna Brown.

The filings are the latest in increasingly defiant and strange behavior from Bundy, including an alleged escape attempt from the Multnomah County Detention Center.

"“I, ryan c, man, will charge $100,000,000.00 if any man or woman or PERSON places another order for [me] to come before the court again regarding this matter,” Bundy wrote."

I'm sure there has to be some country that doesn't care if we dump our trash there.

We don't have a law requiring competence? I think we should get Hillary right on that. I'm sure she can get a competence bill through in her first 100 days. Yuuuuuuuugggge priority!

I mean, what does it mean that so many of us have been competent for so long with no coercion from the government? Can't let that oversight stand. We're all liberals here, let's make some more laws! It's what we do!

"Moron", "imbecile" and "idiot" may live on in some unrevised statutes, but the words generally referred to some form of intellectual impairment, and have been superseded by terms which have not become colloquialisms.

In modern legal terminology, Bundy is a "doofus".

I thought maybe this genius was using some 18th century legal term or something.

is their consistent ability to not only use archaic legal terms, but to use them inappropriately.

Trying to "understand" their bizarre legal theories is more difficult than actual law.

IMHO, among the usual magic words and obsession with capitalization having some special significance, he is using the word "idiot" in there based on some sort of reading of some piece of old common law dealing with immunity of idiots from criminal prosecution or something along those lines.

But clinical and legal usage of the word "idiot" had been pretty consistent: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idiots_Act_1886

IANAL but combining a claim for mental incapacity with one to serve as his own counsel is a bit of a stretch even for these guys surely? It's a bit tricky to be competent enough to represent yourself and yet not competent enough to bear responsibility. I think he''s going for the Athenian democracy definition aws being a person who has opted out of civic life. However even then it didn't make you immune from prosecution. But since when did these troglodytes make sense?

Trying to figure out what sense their nonsense makes to them.

I'm not sure he's claiming lack of mental capacity so much as he is claiming a status of some kind - some other meaning of "idiot" - that renders him (the individual and not the "legal person" which sovcits believe is legally distinct from their identity as humans) beyond the reach of legal mechanisms.

But you might have something there with the Greeks.... "...from Greek idiōtēs ‘private person, layman, ignorant person,’ from idios ‘own, private.’"

Is that just him trying to prove he's an idiot, or does it have some weird meaning for sovereign citizens?
