As a Bernie supporter and now strong Hillary supporter, I'd like to say...

The protests and childish outbursts happening at the convention are damaging Bernies movement and will make it more difficult for reasonable people to "hear" their voices. I'm supportive of protests, but not those who benefit the crazy clown show on the right to embarrass our candidate. I urge people to really think about what a trump presidency would do to this country. Don't be selfish and immature.

If they were really serious about an issue why not take advantage of time at convention to talk to people , learn , make contacts and get involved themselves . They wanted to start at top and work down ... does not work that way its the bottom and work up ...... they are making fools of themselves and probably do not care

How can anyone who truly supported Bernie even think about voting for Trump? I just don't get it. Bernie is left wing, anti-racist, pro-choice, pro LGBT rights, pro increasing the minimum wage, pro increasing taxes on the rich. The only thing in the world those 2 have in common as far as policy is anti-trade bills. Why would any of them do anything to help Trump win? Not voting, voting for someone else is just letting Trump win.

This leftist Bernie supporter is gladly supporting HRC as the alternative is totally unthinkable.

you've hit the bulls-eye on how this will backfire.

What will be the response to this from party officials?

Make sure that fewer ordinary citizens get named delegates and replace them with party insiders. To erect barriers to prevent newly registered Democrats from playing an active role.

It's just selfishness. The inability to stop and think. It's kinda of stunning to me to see folks acting like 4'year olds holding their breath because they didn't get their way. Bernie always said his movement wasn't about him. He kept his word every step of the way. It's just sad they can't follow his lead if they supposedly respect him and trust him.

Many of the BOBers were also part of the "anyone but Hillary" group, we had some here on DU who also were also in the "anti Obama" groups also. They are NOT really Democrats, Liberals or Progressives. I heard an interview the other day where one of the admitted that a bunch of them were never Democrats to begin with.

where they must be registered Democrats for at least 2 years, and more cause for closed primaries, than caucuses or open.

The thinking will be "well, we tried to be open and a few nutjobs ruined it for everyone. F*** that!"

Had these extremely vocal "Democratic supporters" confined their protestations to the outside, and politely sat silent inside, maybe a golf clap or two, then the DNC would have been more likely to stay open.

In essence, no pun intended, it's like burning the house down because you don't like the landlord, and then in a few years, wondering why no landlord will allow you entrance, or at least making sure you don't have access to flammable materials.

County chairs need to vet state convention delegates so they don't get an open door to be a national delegate. Vetting to make sure they are Democrats or at least not Republicans or just plain agitators.

Never posted before but long time follower and reader of DU. Felt a bit intimidated. I was and still am a Bernie supporter. Stood outside in that Arizona sun in the mismanaged primaries to cast my vote for him. Always loved him. But I have said and did say to my wife, if Hillary gets the nomination, I have no problems voting for her, especially now with Trump. I don't agree with her on alot of things, but I agree with her more than I disagree. I definitely agree with her more than Trump. It upsets me about the outbursts, it also makes me scared as I'm a natural worrier. People around me are keeping me sane when it comes to whats going on at the DNC, and people here are saying it's a handful. This is about beating Trump and there was always a huge difference between both of them.

Hello! Thanks for the comment, as this is exactly how I feel. I was torn between Bernie and Hillary but chose the latter and have not regretted my choice. We can take comfort in the fact that, according to polls, 85% of Bernie supporters plan to vote for Hillary. The small, loud minority that is protesting at the DNC are outliers who probably followed Bernie to the Democratic Party and have no plans to vote for Hillary.

They should be on board. If they aren't on board they never would be and really doubtful they were on board with anyone as Democratic nominee.

With the announcement that that there was nearly 5 million more viewers of the DNC Convention on day 2 I think that bodes well for us. That doesn't include those that watch the convention online, C-Span, or Amazon Fire TV and other similar modes.

The movement Sanders started will florish in a forward direction, as the true goal is getting progressive policies implemented. The primaries were very rough, but can be seen as a political boot camp for some of the ones newer to politics.

I can see this movement getting involved down ticket, supporting progressive candidates--in my own area I support Pramila Jayapal, a strong Bernie supporter.

This protesting is annoying and counter-productive. There is a lot of common ground to be found, and it's my belief the two camps of Democrats will find a way to do just that.
