http://planettransgender.com/kenosha-unified-school-district-forces-transgender-students-to-wear-badges/The Daily Beasts reports that a federal Title IX lawsuit filed in Wisconsin on Tuesday alleges that the Kenosha Unified School District instructed guidance counselors to have Ash Whitaker, a 16-year old transgender boy, and any other transgender students at the school wear bright green wristbands so that the school could more easily monitor and enforce (their) restroom usage.
The Transgender Law Center has filed a lawsuit on behalf of Ash Whitaker and his mother which reads in part:
(Whitaker had been using the boys room uneventfully for seven months when he was denied) access to boys restrooms at school and requiring him to use girls restrooms or a single occupancy restroom; (b) directing school staff to monitor his restroom usage and to report to
administrators if he was observed using a boys restroom; (c) intentionally and repeatedly using his birth name and female pronouns, and failing to appropriately inform substitute teachers and other staff members of his preferred name and pronouns, resulting in those staff referring to him by his birth name or with female pronouns in front of other students; (d) instructing guidance counselors to issue bright green wristbands to A.W. and any other transgender students at the school, to more easily monitor and enforce these students restroom usage; (e) requiring him to room with girls on an orchestra trip to Europe and requiring, as a condition of his ability to participate in a recent overnight school-sponsored orchestra camp held on a college campus, that he stay either in a multi-room suite with girls, or alone in a multi-room suite with no other students, while all other boys shared multi-room suites with other boys; and (f) initially denying him the ability to run for junior prom king, despite being nominated for that recognition based on his active involvement in community service, instructing him that he could only run for prom queen, and only relenting and allowing him to run for prom king after a protest by many of those same classmates/

(5,275 posts)I have a friend who has a mid teenage child who has moved from female to male. I have seen photos and believe me this child belongs in the men's room, he looks like any other male.
The school he goes to nor the other kids have no problem with any of it.
The school district is going to lose, book it.

(4,033 posts)we had reports of a man in the women's bathroom using a mirror to look at them while they relieved themselves. One night I walked into a stall and a mirror quickly showed up in my stall. I exited the stall banged on the one he was in, called "Police, you're under arrest."
We had reports from about a dozen women, so multiply that by at least 2, for the women who didn't report it. He was not a student.

(37,051 posts)Our conservatives take the position that now it's ok for any man to just walk in by saying he is 'transgender' but there are still laws to be used against perverts.

(10,749 posts)Why don't they just make them wear pink armbands, which I believe was the color of the armbands dictated by the nazis. Skip the pretense and just admit you want to shame and humiliate. And don't stop there. If any students are Jewish, add in the yellow star with Jew in the center.
Oh, and let's not forget the protect virtue punish vice police from Saudi Arabia. Give other students the right to stone the offenders, whose names should also be published in the local papers.
I mean, after all, we can get an advance peak at what America will look like under a trump presidency.

(58,724 posts)Or anything of the kind.
Then, in May, his guidance counselor showed Ash's mother a bright green wristband that the school intended to use to mark students who are transgender, the lawsuit says.
He was never asked to wear it, he said, but he believes he will have to wear it when he returns for senior year.
The district called the allegation "patently false."
"The district does not have a practice or policy requiring any student to wear a wristband for monitoring any purpose or for any reason whatsoever," Ruder said.

There is no evidence presented in any of the articles on this topic that any student was forced to wear a wristband or an armband.

oberliner
(58,724 posts)It certainly gives the impression that this is something that is ongoing or has actually been implemented in some way.
This is patently false.

(58,724 posts)Here is their public response to the lawsuit:
KUSD RESPONSE TO LAWSUIT
Kenosha Unified was recently made aware of the lawsuit filed against the District alleging discrimination against a transgender student. The District and its legal counsel are reviewing the complaint and all of the allegations asserted in the complaint. Even a cursory review of the complaint shows that some of the factual allegations are patently false. The District does not have a practice or policy requiring any student to wear a wristband for monitoring any purpose or for any reason whatsoever. The District has worked diligently with transgendered students and their families to address their unique needs and accommodations, including the family named in the suit.
Kenosha Unified's attorney, Ron Stadler, said, "The District is confident that when the litigation process establishes accurate facts and applies them to the proper legal standards its policies and practices will be found to be in total compliance with all laws."

Incidentally, in none of the articles on this topic is any evidence presented that anyone was forced to wear a wristband or armband.
