Carson: Melania's alleged plagiarism a sign 'we share the same values'

Of course he does...

I apologize for the link to politico....

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — Trump campaign surrogate Ben Carson on Tuesday dismissed evidence that elements of Melania Trump’s speech at the Republican National Convention were plagiarized from Michelle Obama, suggesting that if plagiarism did occur, it was a sign of shared values.

“If Melania’s speech is similar to Michelle Obama’s speech, that should make us all very happy because we should be saying, whether we’re Democrats or Republicans, we share the same values,” he told reporters after addressing a Florida GOP delegation breakfast at a hotel here 20 minutes outside Cleveland, where the RNC is taking place.

“If we happen to share values, we should celebrate that, not try to make it into a controversy,” he added.

“I don’t think they were plagiarized. I think there are general principles that are very valuable to Americans, and of course to express those principles you’re going to use similar language,” Carson said.

Carson, a former presidential candidate himself, is no stranger to dealing with fallout from plagiarism. In 2015, he apologized for examples of plagiarism found in his book, “America the Beautiful.”

Ben Carson apologizes after plagiarism report

Washington (CNN)Potential Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson is apologizing after being accused of plagiarism -- even as the author of one of the books Carson is accused of lifting material from is rushing to his defense.

"I attempted to appropriately cite and acknowledge all sources in America the Beautiful, but inadvertently missed some. I apologize, and I am working with my editors to rectify the situation," Carson said in a statement his representative, Armstrong Williams, provided to CNN.

BuzzFeed News broke the story earlier this week that Carson had lifted material from a number of books and online sources for his 2012 book "America the Beautiful."

Among those sources is SocialismSucks.net, a site whose founder acknowledged to BuzzFeed that Carson had taken some of his comments. Other sources included "The Five Thousand Year Leap" by W. Cleon Skousen, a Liberty Institute press release, CBS News and author William Federer's book "America's God and Country."

if she, or more likely her speech writers, had been able to confer the same message without stealing the verbiage it would have been nice.

We should all recognize that not everyone has the good fortune to have had parents who were able to instill the value that hard work pays off. Michelle Obama reflected her own experience, having been raised by parents who instilled the value of a strong work ethic. I admire Michelle for first stating what I also believe to be true. No matter who says it...it needs to be repeated over and over again.

It's possible that Melania also believes this and that Carson is not an idiot.

Trumps speechwriters were lazy and couldn't have been bothered to craft a message for Melania without plagiarizing. English is not her first language.

At least there is one area where women from all sides come to agreement because we all want our children to have the best life possible.
