(23,156 posts)How many dressers was it that IKEA recalled because six children died? While each and every one of those child's deaths was a tragedy, so are the children, not to mention the adults, who die every single day from guns.
Oh, and the answer, because I looked it up, was 29 million dressers.
Someone should run the numbers as to how likely a child is to die from an IKEA dresser in the home as compared to how many are likely to die because of a gun in the home. I have a feeling that even if you control it for the vastly greater number of guns, the risk is still far, far larger.

Even though I've never shopped at IKEA, actually don't live within about 400 miles of one, I've assembled other things, so I know the frustrations.
Maybe, just to be a bit silly and snarky, guns should arrive disassembled, and people should have to put them together.
On a related note, one year when our sons were young I bought bicycles for them for Christmas, that my husband needed to assemble. He accomplished the task but made it very clear that any future bicycles would need to arrive already put together.
But putting together guns, strikes me as highly amusing, so long as no terrible accidents occur in the process.
