(56,582 posts)The helmets are definitely Bobbies. And Hamley's is a UK chain.
Also I love this.

(66,529 posts)I was visiting England during terminal leave from the Army back in 1993. I brought along one of my Army camo field jackets, recently stripped of name tapes and insignia ('cause I was out of there!...) to wear during cold or rainy weather; of which England has plenty, even in high summer.
I was on the train to Preston, when a drunken old Irishman, mistaking me for a British soldier, started yelling and screaming at me, calling me a "British Army shit!" He wouldn't let up.
Some guy in street clothes walked up to the guy, flashed a Transport Police badge, and politely but firmly send the guy packing.
British police are the pinnacle of public servant courtesy. But you don't want to fuck with them.

(3,190 posts)I attended my first Pride event with ~7000 others in London 40 years ago when I was 19. I was so scared of anyone recognizing me.
According to a friend of mine who went this year, the Royal Palaces had a banner which read "100 years of Kings, Queens and in betweens"
And the Grenadier Guards' band in full full uniform (including bearskin hats) led the military contingent.
Astonishing.
