That's an important question we're leaving out. It's a largely thankless job with a history of being used to keep a politician you want out of the public eye in a box.

I think I remember that in both parties if somebody is currently in elected office the committee only pays their differential between their public sector pay and the full salary, but I now can't find that.

So, to be very honest: I don't know.
It's a really good question.
McAuliffe already had the job, and I wouldn't be unhappy to see him there again. having said that, some peeps are trying to make him a bad guy.
Dean isn't coming back.

(56,582 posts)McAuliffe would be interesting; he did a decent job, but I can't think of the carrot anybody could wave to get him to go back. Same problem with O'Malley or any other "big" name: this post is going to suck, and everybody knows it.
