(9,897 posts)I loath hypocrites, but the GOP and their fanatic base are beyond hypocritical.
They seek to control and demean women at every turn and its disgusting.
The latest bullshit about bathroom access is just another example in a never ending avalanche down bullshit mountain (come back sooner Mr. Stewart!)

(4,753 posts)Roe v. Wade? I do and I remember the nation breathing a sigh of release when the court verdict came down. Today, as a result of republicon efforts to deny women access to abortions, the death toll from botched abortions is once again on the rise.
Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

(5,376 posts)Back in the 50s, I had a friend who when pregnant (yes, she was married) required heart surgery and the pregnancy had to be terminated. Fortunately, some judge agreed to let that happen and the surgery proceeded. With the advent of "The Pill" in the 60s, the rate of back-alley abortions doubtless decreased, but Roe v Wade was a giant step forward for our nation. I dread the thought of it being overturned.

(1,178 posts)It is about control. The same people don't want us to control our own sexuality, our identity, our rights to make end-of-life decisions, our environment. Freedom scares them.

(1,178 posts)Europe pushed out so many religious refugees it wouldn't tolerate and sent them to the U.S. We got your Calvinists, Anabaptists and all kinds of others and gave them an opportunity to live as they wished. Unfortunately, not all of these groups play well with other people who happen to be different and they drive the rest of us crazy. Take some back, please!!!!

(12,885 posts)Those first two words of the 2nd paragraph can be construed as conceding the point that abortion kills innocent humans.
If I believed abortion kills innocent human beings I would be opposed to it.
Otherwise, spot-on.

(23,156 posts)I'd point out that you don't need to have one. Otherwise, don't presume to tell anyone else what to believe.
Note the if in the first line.
As several here have already pointed out, it's all about control of women.
Martin Eden
(12,885 posts)In the national debate we must not concede the basis of their "moral" argument that abortion kills innocent children.
BTW, there was no "if" in the first line of the OP.
SheilaT
(23,156 posts)It was careless of me.
However, if for me abortion is not a moral issue, I simply will not buy into the argument that it kills a person. I will not concede some sort of moral higher ground.
I have been known to say to people that if they don't believe in abortion, then don't have one. That statement actually brought an incredibly annoying 15 year old right wing conservative religious fanatic, and a male to boot, to stunned silence.
Plus, if they are claiming higher moral ground you'd think they'd be very eager to provided good prenatal services, and support for mothers and babies after the birth. But they never do. So much for their morals.
Martin Eden
(12,885 posts)The anti-choice side does not hold the moral high ground but they insist they do, and it is based on the premise that an abortion kills an innocent person.
That is a point which must never be conceded.

(7,018 posts)exactly what they're doing. They've deliberately made, and are still making, more and
more poor people still poorer with the ways and means you've described above. It's
for profit. And they couldn't care less what suffering the poor go through before they
die -- as long as these sociopaths and psychopaths can make their ill-gotten profits.
It's in their character not to care. Their greed is limitless!

(5,275 posts)it says a lot about the dumbing down of way too many citizens who readily buy the half truths, outright lies, etc of Faux News, Rush blowhard, etc.
Oh and believe the "Flintstones" was a cartoon documentary, that the earth and universe is only 6000 years old or 5000 or whatever. It is nonsense and provably wrong.
